Support THIS aspect of your digestive health to beat back liver woes
You may not think about your liver very much… or even AT ALL…
But this organ is a WORKHORSE of your digestive system!
And although it’s too often IGNORED… the health of your liver is VITAL to your overall health.
Believe it or not, we’re STILL learning the ins and outs of liver health… and what EXACTLY contributes to liver disease.
And the latest findings seem to fill in some of the blanks.
Here’s how one simple habit… one that may SEEM innocent… can set off a “domino effect” that puts your liver health in the crosshairs.
Crucial step in liver protection
It starts with a salty snack… or a few sips of a sugary drink.
Indulging in processed treats like these may seem harmless… especially if it only happens once in a blue moon…
But unfortunately, too many Americans have made “grab-and-go” eating a STAPLE of the Western diet.
And it turns out that our liver health is SUFFERING as a result.
Researchers from UC San Diego have pieced together the events that lead to liver disease – specifically, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
Translation: Even if you never touch A DROP of the stuff, you can still WRECK your liver!
In fact, NAFLD affects 1 in 3 Americans… and is the most common cause of liver disease worldwide.
A key culprit of our declining liver health is a common ingredient found in much of the “junk food” we rely on today.
I’m talking about high fructose corn syrup.
Now, you may read headlines that talk about how “too much fructose” is linked to liver disease.
But there’s a HUGE gap between the natural sugars found in fresh fruits… and the highly-processed HFCS, which is a sweetener derived from corn.
In fact, HFCS doesn’t stop with making YOU fat.
It also makes your liver fatty!
And much more than real, pure sugar.
Interestingly, that doesn’t happen right away. According to this latest study I just mentioned, HFCS wreaks havoc on SOMETHING ELSE before moving onto your liver.
Your gut!
Turns out, HFCS interferes with the protective actions of certain proteins in your gut… leading to increased permeability in the gut barrier.
This is what we call “leaky gut.”
Your gut literally LEAKS the bad stuff out into your bloodstream… which brings toxic substances (a.k.a. endotoxins) straight to your liver!
There, they trigger inflammation… and the formation of fatty deposits.
But there’s a catch… and here’s where the good news comes in.
PRESERVING your gut barrier could help keep NAFLD at bay!
Now, of course the OBVIOUS answer here is to reduce your intake of high fructose corn syrup. But in our fast-paced world, I know that’s not always 100% possible.
Fortunately, there are other ways you can keep your gut lining from DETERIORATING.
Some gut-healing herbs I’ve shared with you before right here in eAlert include cat’s claw… artichoke leaf extract… and marshmallow tea.
