Seniors: A lifesaving benefit to COFFEE (Surprising!)
Here at eAlert we don’t shy away from the health benefits of COFFEE.
It helps maintain a strong metabolism and healthy weight…
Can bulletproof your prostate…
And even give your brain some added protection!
But a new study just unveiled ANOTHER health benefit to your morning Java…
And this one could be lifesaving for many seniors!
A new study out of Singapore, published in the Journal of the American Medical Directors Association, says that regularly drinking coffee (or tea) during middle age could help fend off frailty later in life.
Frailty is a major health concern for seniors as it can lead to lessened mobility, decreased muscle mass and bone strength—all of which can increase the risk of potentially deadly falls.
The study, which spanned 20 years, determined that middle-aged individuals who consumed coffee, black tea, or green tea had a significantly reduced risk of physical frailty in as they aged.
In terms of how MUCH led to the best results, the study found that folks who drank four or more cups of coffee daily had substantially lower odds of experiencing physical frailty compared to non-daily coffee drinkers.
Additionally, regular black and green tea drinkers also had decreased odds of developing frailty compared to those who didn’t drink tea.
It should be noted that this specific study looked at folks who drank coffee and/or tea during middle age. But reaping the health benefits of drinking coffee and tea can still come to fruition even in your senior years.
As I mentioned earlier, coffee consumption is already linked to major health benefits like prostate health, improved memory, and maintaining a healthy weight—all important things to be mindful of no matter your age.
When it comes to coffee (and tea), just be sure to be mindful of caffeine. Caffeine can affect people in different ways. If you do have a caffeine sensitivity, studies have found that drinking the DECAF varieties also yield major health benefits.
And, as an added bonus, our very own Dr. Allan Spreen recently highlighted how to make the HEALTHIEST cup of coffee possible. Check it out.
To the healing powers of coffee and tea,
