71% of U.S. food supply DEADLY? (Study)
I’ve said it before… and I’ll say it again…
The majority of the foods that comprise the typical U.S. diet are loaded with JUNK.
I’m talking refined sugars, carbohydrates, and even chemical-laden preservatives that put your body through the wringer.
And unfortunately, the news about our food supply isn’t getting any better as an explosive new study found that the majority of the food we Americans consume is linked to a deadly disease…
Here’s what you need to know—and how you can easily steer clear.
A 2019 study published by the journal Nutrients found that a whopping 71% of the U.S. food supply is considered ULTRA-PROCESSED.
Ultra-processed foods typically have five or more ingredients and include many additives and ingredients that are not typically used in home cooking. These include preservatives, emulsifiers, sweeteners, artificial colors and flavors.
Take a gander at the majority of food labels in your grocery store and it’s no surprise that the majority of foods are considered ultra-processed. Most of the ingredient labels are full of things I can’t even pronounce!
And now a new study funded by the World Cancer Research Fund International (and published by CNN), linked eating a greater amount of ultra-processed food to a higher risk of developing CANCERS—specifically cancers of the upper digestive tract, such as mouth, throat, and esophageal.
In fact, the study found that people who consumed 10% more ultra-processed foods than others in the study had a:
- 23% higher risk of head and neck cancer
- 24% higher risk of esophageal adenocarcinoma—a type of cancer that grows in the glands lining the insides of your organs
And with over 70% of the food in the States deemed ultra-processed… well, those don’t exactly stack the odds in your favor.
But there is a solution to lowering your risk of cancer linked to ultra-processed foods.
DON’T EAT THE CRAP!
I realize it’s easier said than done (considering how much of the junk surrounds you), but sticking to natural, whole foods like organic meats, fruits, and veggies—the cornerstones of a Paleo or Mediterranean eating lifestyle.
And when you come across an ingredient label full of things you don’t know or can’t pronounce, don’t put it in your shopping cart.
It will significantly reduce your risk of any sort of health risks commonly associated with ultra-processed foods.
