Cozy trick puts your sleep troubles to BED!
Remember the days when you could fall asleep ANYWHERE?!
Back when I was much younger, I could crash on a friend’s couch or fall asleep in a hotel bed during vacation… and wake up feeling bright-eyed and bushy-tailed the next day.
Friend, I don’t know about you, but those days for me are GONE.
See, the older we get, the more HELP we need getting a good night’s rest.
In fact, a study found that Americans spend over $40 BILLION on sleep aids and remedies!
Now, I’m not here to shamelessly peddle another sleep gadget…
But I do want to share some new research on how a cozy trick that can help unlock your body’s NATURAL sleep hormones…
And how it could be a valuable, long-term investment for some of the best sleep you’ve had in years!
A new study published in the Journal of Sleep Research has found that utilizing weighted blankets can help increase your body’s production of the sleep-promoting hormone melatonin.
Your body’s natural melatonin levels can decline gradually as you age, making it harder to get into that optimal “sleep zone.”
But this latest study found that sleeping with a weighted blanket naturally increased melatonin levels as much as 30% — compared to sleeping with a light blanket or sheet.
A note about the study… researchers conducted these sleep tests on young adults. But there’s no reason the benefits of a weighted blanket wouldn’t apply to older persons, too. (Especially since us older folks have a harder time producing melatonin!)
Oh, and another benefit to a weighted blanket? The study found that it can help you produce more oxytocin — a.k.a. the “love hormone.”
Shop around and do your research on weighted blankets.
There is a wide range of prices – and quality. So, be sure to only purchase a blanket you are comfortable with – and it doesn’t hurt to find one with a good return policy in case it’s not for you.
Don’t forget that you can also take a natural melatonin supplement, too. These can easily be found in the vitamin aisle at your local pharmacy, and big box store like Target or Walmart.
I prefer the type that dissolves under your tongue. Regardless, if you’re thinking of supplementing with melatonin, stick with the dosage on the product label… and if you haven’t taken it before, you can even start with half the dosage.
To better sleep,
Sarah Reagan
