Could cancer RETREAT from this creepy fungus?

You may have heard the news about a new “mushroom drug” that could help KILL cancer…

But don’t get your hopes up just yet.

Because it’s going to be a while before this potential cancer treatment can PROVE that it works…

And that it’s safe enough for people to use.

Here’s the backstory of the NATURAL origins of where this new “drug discovery” came from…

And why a laboratory version of a mushroom compound may not necessarily be a MAJOR improvement over the conventional cancer treatments that you already have access to.

It’s too early to make a judgment on this one way or another…

But I’ve got everything you should keep in mind as this story develops further.

Drawbacks of the ‘mushroom cloud’ approach

Scientists have discovered more than 400 different types of cordyceps fungi, whose name comes from the Greek words for “club” and “head.”

That’s because it looks EXACTLY like the head of a prehistoric weapon!

One of these mushrooms in particular, called Cordyceps militaris, appears to contribute to the fight against cancer.

What sets this one apart from other cordyceps mushrooms is that it contains a higher concentration of a potential cancer-fighting substance called cordycepin.

This compound was first discovered back in 1950…

And since then, in vitro studies have shown how it could help combat colon cancer cells… liver cancer cells… breast cancer cells… kidney cancer cells… lung cancer cells… and more.

As, according to a 2018 review, it has demonstrated the ability to help… FORCE cancer cells to “off” themselves (a.k.a. apoptosis)

INTERRUPT cancer cell growth and reproductive cycle

HALT the spread of cancer cells (metastasis), and

CUT OFF a tumor’s blood supply (anti-angiogenesis).

 

Of course, the MORE a potential therapy can ATTACK cancer from multiple different angles… the MORE promising it is to help WIN the war against the disease!

Traditional Chinese Medicine uses cordyceps mushrooms for immune support as well as cancer…

But now, modern pharmaceutical scientists seem to have ALSO sat up and taken notice!

Last month, the news came out that the UK-based biopharmaceutical company NuCana is working with Oxford University on clinical trials to test a cordycepin-based cancer drug, which they’re currently calling NUC-7738.

Now, this is a page straight out of the Big Pharma playbook…

Which is to take a NATURAL compound… SYNTHESIZE it in a laboratory… and RAMP UP its potency.

And the results show that NUC-7738 is, indeed, 40X more powerful than naturally-derived cordycepin.

The researchers behind it consider that a SLAM DUNK…

But I’ll wait to see what it does to the cancer patients they give it to in the clinical trials.

They’re focusing on cases of solid tumors that have thus far RESISTED cancer treatments…

Which is like trying to find a STRONGER atomic bomb to NUKE the cancer with.

See, the problem with most cancer drugs today isn’t necessarily that they DON’T work to kill the cancer…

But that they’re SO strong… the patient can’t TOLERATE the dosage necessary to completely DESTROY their tumors!

So a cancer drug that’s 40X stronger than cordyceps mushroom may not necessarily be BETTER – not if it takes a “scorched earth” approach and OBLITERATES healthy tissue along with tumors.

The researchers say that the toxic side effects of their drug-in-development have been “limited” so far…

So maybe we truly have a reason to be hopeful.

Now, it may be CALLED a “mushroom”… but you WON’T find cordyceps in the produce section… and you WOULDN’T want to eat it if you found it out in the wild.

It’s also a parasite – one that grows on rice, barley, and other cereal grains, as well as on insects!

And it needs to be processed in just the right way to MAXIMIZE its medicinal powers… and to make sure it DOESN’T make you sick.
