Send premature death PACKING with this pumpkin trick
Ever notice how certain older folks seem to OUTLAST all their peers?
They don’t just hold on LONGER…
But they live BETTER… and in fact THRIVE well into their “golden years.”
You might think it’s just “good genes”…
But the science suggests there’s something else at play.
Turns out, there’s an easy way to keep BOTH feet out of the grave for as long as possible…
And who doesn’t want that?
It’s a simple “color trick” – and it’ll have you shopping the produce section with a whole new perspective!
Vote for orange
Pumpkins… and other orange veggies… share a common source of their “Halloweeny” hue.
It’s a group of plant pigments called carotenoids – specifically, alpha-carotene and beta-carotene.
Now, you’ve probably heard plenty about beta-carotene, which gets its name from the Latin word for “carrot”…
But the headlines have practically IGNORED its closely related cousin, alpha-carotene!
Both of these carotenoids are converted into vitamin A after they’re metabolized…
But it’s alpha-carotene that stands out when it comes to longevity.
In one study, folks with the highest blood levels of alpha-carotene showed an average of a 39% lower risk of dying from any cause, compared to those with the lowest levels.
That was among a HUGE group of people… more than 15,000 adults… over a long time period of 14 years.
That means some folks in the study OUTLIVED others by a GIANT margin!
And research shows that high alpha-carotene levels are also associated with a lower risk of death from cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer.
Researchers attribute the life-extending qualities of alpha-carotene to its antioxidant action…
Which may also explain why it’s shown to be helpful in keeping certain types of cancers… especially lung cancer… at bay.
Both carotenes and vitamin A are known for their ability to ENHANCE immune function…
And a closer look at the research reveals that low levels of alpha-carotene specifically can help PREDICT cardiovascular death.
Now, your body can’t make alpha-carotene on its own… so you’ve got to get it from an outside source.
Look for brightly orange-colored veggies… and even fruits, like tangerines…
But remember that alpha-carotene is a fat-soluble nutrient, so you’ll want to consume foods that contain it with a healthy oil.
Lightly steaming orange veggies also seems to boost the availability of alpha-carotene.
You’re not likely to find alpha-carotene on its own in supplement form… but look for it as an ingredient in “mixed carotenoids” capsules.
Of course, you can also find vitamin A supplements… but they may only contain beta-carotene.
No matter which one you choose, be sure to take it with meals.
To eating orange foods all year,
Melissa Young
