Remember the “Just Say No” drug campaigns during the 80s?

I sure do – and they did a great thing at highlighting the dangers of drugs being sold on the streets that were harming kids and adults.

Unfortunately, the illegal drug trade is obviously still alive and well. But I’ve got news for you…

The prescription and OTC drug markets are nothing to turn a blind eye to, either!

Big Pharma companies make BILLIONS each year on drugs designed to “fix” or “manage” chronic diseases like diabetes, heart disease, and arthritis.

These drugs are so IN YOUR FACE, it’s no wonder folks think drugs are the only way to manage their condition.

Well, today I’m giving you the skinny on the three of the most ABUSED prescription and OTC drugs out there

And some insight on how you can DITCH them completely!

WebMD recently released a comprehensive list of commonly abused prescription and OTC drugs.

It was a long list… but I’m going to highlight the top 3.

Drumroll please…

  1. Barbiturates
  2. Benzodiazepines
  3. Sleep Medicines

Here’s a run-down of each.

Barbiturates are sedatives like phenobarbital, pentobarbital (Nembutal), and secobarbital (Seconal). They are designed to help with anxiety, sleep problems, and some seizures. But if you take more than prescribed, you can become ADDICTED.

Benzodiazepines include alprazolam (Xanax), clonazepam (Klonopin), and diazepam (Valium). They are another type of sedative that can help with anxiety, panic attacks, and sleep problems. They’re considered “safer” than barbiturates. But they’re overused and, even when used as prescribed, they can lead to physical dependence and addiction.

Finally, sleep medications come in all shapes and forms. Drugs like zolpidem (Ambien), eszopiclone (Lunesta), and zaleplon (Sonata) are some of the most common. But if you use them longer than suggested, you may become dependent.

I could go on-and-on, but here’s my take:

If your doctor INSISTS you “need” to be on prescription drugs – the aforementioned ones or otherwise – have a frank conversation on whether they’re really necessary.

Instead, ask if there are natural alternatives. If he scoffs at the idea, perhaps it’s time to get a second opinion.

You can also check out my insight on how NATURE can help ease the dependence of prescription drugs. This was news so big, even CNN featured the research behind it!
