I’ve pulled no punches when it comes to promoting the health benefits of melatonin.

From lowering blood pressurereducing headaches… to even regrowing lost hair

Melatonin (aka the “sleep hormone”) does so MUCH MORE than just helping you get a deep, restful sleep.

Now, a Swedish study has upped the ante on melatonin’s benefits – claiming that, when used properly, it could literally SAVE LIVES.

Led by scientists at the Karolinska Institute in Solna, Sweden, and published in the Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry, a new study has linked melatonin supplements as potentially having positive effects for those with depression – and even those facing thoughts of self-harm.

This particular study focused teenagers, with a specific link to self-harm (which is, too often, a symptom of depression, especially in young folks).

It all boils down to what multiple studies have found: that no matter how old you are sleep problems could be one of the first signs of depression.

Which means, there’s no reason why melatonin couldn’t also help older ADULTS suffering from depression.

See, many folks are either more vulnerable to depression from too many nights of poor sleep… or, as a result of depression, sleep poorly.

BUT, melatonin could help many folks get better, more quality sleep that could help contribute to a better overall mindset.

And as we know, sleep is crucial for many things – including our mood, mental, and emotional state.

Let me be absolutely clear — melatonin is NOT a cure for depression. But when it comes to this mental illness, every little win counts.

The typical dose of melatonin is 3mg per day.

Occasionally you will find some manufactures that have 5mg doses… but for the most part, the usual dosage for melatonin is 3mg, and that’s what I’d recommend, too.

A higher dosage of 5mg every now and then isn’t cause for alarm, but steer clear of taking any more than that for a prolonged period of time.

The bottom line?

If you have any questions about how much you should take or are thinking about starting a melatonin regimen, talk to your doctor. Many folks start with less than 3mg per day and work their way up.

To the benefits of melatonin,
