Lower BP reading 7 points… with DAIRY?
It’s one thing that grinds my gears… and frankly, sends MY blood pressure through the roof…
And that’s when doctors take your blood pressure, examine your readings, and then tell you that it’s “HIGH.”
(Even if it’s barely a tick ABOVE a normal level!)
From there they say that the only way to lower your so-called “HIGH” blood pressure is a lifetime of risky and expensive prescriptions… and they’ll hand you laundry list of foods you CAN’T eat.
GRRR!
I find this incredibly frustrating. Because the fact is that controlling – and lowering – your blood pressure DOESN’T always require a medicine cabinet full of pills or a super-restrictive diet.
Case in point, new research that shows a delicious dairy-aisle staple can help you lower your blood pressure…
It’s so effective, you’ll want to make it a household staple!
According to a research study conducted by teams at the University of South Australia and the University of Maine, eating a daily dose of yogurt is associated with better and lower blood pressure for folks with hypertension.
Hypertension is the medical term for high blood pressure, and when it’s not controlled it can lead to cardiovascular diseases like a heart attack or stroke.
But this latest study found that yogurt is capable of reducing blood pressure.
How, exactly? After all, many in the mainstream have labeled yogurt as too ‘fatty’ for people with heart issues.
Believe it or not, dairy foods contain a range of micronutrients – including calcium, magnesium and potassium – which studies have found regulate blood pressure levels.
In addition to these valuable micronutrients, yogurt also contains bacteria that promote the release of proteins which lower blood pressure!
In fact, the study found that, for those who consumed yogurt regularly, their blood pressure readings were nearly seven points LOWER than those who did not consume yogurt.
There’s no arguing with those results!
Now, when it comes to yogurt, there’s no shortage of options… but it you should pay attention to the kind you choose.
Many contain extra, added sugars that provide zero health benefits. You’ll want to avoid those.
Look for whole, natural, and when possible – organic – yogurts that don’t have added sugars or artificial flavors.
Yogurt is a great food to have for breakfast, or as a base for your favorite smoothie.
Just remember that yogurt is also very calorie dense, so be sure to only eat the recommended serving size.
To better blood pressure,
