IGNORED garnish steps into the spotlight when your mood needs a BOOST
You know how when you get hungry… REALLY hungry… you become short-tempered…
And even angry?
Young folks call that getting “hangry”…
But that’s not JUST a cute turn of phrase.
Food can DEFINITELY affect your mood…
And CERTAIN foods can even turn a BAD mood around!
There’s one culinary trick in particular that can BANISH stressful feelings… by FEEDING your brain certain “feel-good” nutrients.
It’s been one of the most UNDERESTIMATED herbs out there…
But now might be the time for it to finally get its due.
Mood food
You might not think much of parsley (Petroselinum crispum) when it’s just a colorful garnish on your plate. You might not even bother EATING it!
But this Mediterranean herb deserves a second chance…
Because as it turns out, it could be BRAIN FOOD!
Specifically, I’m talking about parsley’s powerful effect on mood.
And if you feel depressed or anxious, you’ll want to pay attention to this.
You see, parsley may not seem to offer a whole lot of flavor or aroma…
But it’s BURSTING with antioxidants!
And those molecules are small enough to cross the blood-brain barrier, where they help BANISH depression and anxiety.
In fact, a consortium of international researchers in an animal study published earlier this year found parsley to have “remarkable” mood benefits…
Even BETTER than those of a common SSRI antidepressant drug and a common benzo-based anxiety med!
Does it work the same way in humans?
Well, there aren’t any clinical trials to confirm that… YET…
But the success of the animal trial I just mentioned brings us one step closer to finding out.
In theory, it makes sense… as parsley contains such mood-boosting nutrients as folate and vitamins A, C, and K.
But there’s something else in parsley that appears to WORK WONDERS when your mood is in the toilet.
It’s an antioxidant called apigenin (and a version of it called apiin).
On its own, apigenin has shown to BLOCK the body’s production of the “stress hormone,” cortisol… and even REVERSE its effects!
In fact, it’s one of the compounds that helps make chamomile tea so RELAXING.
But parsley contains exponentially MORE apigenin than any other edible plant!
You can find parsley in capsule or loose powdered form at your local health food store or online.
You can also find chamomile supplements that have been standardized to contain a certain percentage of apigenin.
