Weird ‘juice trick’ REGROWS lost hair [Try at home!]
You’re feeling less confident… and you don’t want to leave the house even on an ESSENTIAL run.
The pandemic has done a number on our personal care routines…
And it goes WAY beyond going MONTHS without a haircut.
If you’re going a little thin up top… or more than a few inches of gray roots have grown in…
You could feel DESPERATE to see a hairdresser… just to get back to feeling like yourself again!
For some folks, that’s just not possible right now.
But that doesn’t mean you have to let your hair FADE… WEAKEN… or otherwise WORSEN as time passes.
Because there’s an old “wives’ tale” that could help PROTECT your head of hair from the RAVAGES of time…
And it uses a staple ingredient you may already have in your kitchen!
A protein boost… from the pantry
I’m talking about onions (Allium cepa).
In one study, participants with patchy hair loss (alopecia areata) put onion juice on their scalp twice a day…
And after just 4 weeks, 74% of them REGREW lost hair!
Compare that to only 13% of the placebo group, which just used tap water.
Antioxidant-packed onion juice isn’t just moisturizing for dry, brittle, THIRSTY hair.
It’s also a rich source of sulfur… which is what makes your eyes tear up when you slice into an onion.
Sulfur is also a MAJOR component of the protein that comprises much of your hair, known as keratin.
Sulfur also influences the production of another CRUCIAL protein for strong hair, collagen.
Supporting healthy levels of both keratin and collagen is one way to NOURISH your hair – especially at the follicles (or “roots”).
And lack of collagen has been associated with hair that “goes” gray too much… too soon.
Gray hair has also been associated with lower levels of the antioxidant enzyme known as catalase, which onion juice helps BOOST.
But that’s not all…
Onions are potent antibacterial agents – a quality that contributes to healthy wound healing AND could help fight scalp infections that contribute to hair loss.
Some scientists have theorized that onions can help keep hair follicles healthy by DELIVERING more blood to them…
And in guys, onions may boost low testosterone levels, a common culprit behind hair loss.
But in that case, you might have to DRINK the onion juice… and not just wash your hair with it.
Now, this “folk legend” must be so POWERFUL… or the science so PROMISING… that some personal care companies have CAPITALIZED on it…
And are now including onion as a star ingredient in certain shampoos and conditioners.
Those products may PROMISE an “odorless” form of onion…
But I’m not 100% sure they’ve formulated anything you can’t do yourself at home… and much more cheaply.
Because you can simply “juice” plain ol’ onions you find in the produce section or at the farmer’s market…
And apply it directly to your scalp!
Combine it with coconut oil… olive oil… or castor oil for extra moisturizing power…
And let it “sit” for a few minutes so it can really SEEP IN to your hair follicles.
To cancel out the “oniony” smell, add a small amount of lemon juice.
The mixture probably won’t foam up much – but you can rinse it out using a gentle commercial shampoo.
