Listen, I know we’ve all been DISTRACTED over the last several months by a “new” virus

But we can’t let our guard down when it comes to the ANNUAL threat that the flu poses.

Every year, TENS OF THOUSANDS of Americans die from influenza infections.

And as much as 85% of those deaths occur among folks who are 65 or older.

Older folks who survive the flu might still have to ENDURE a hospital stay.

So needless to say, flu is one infection we should NEVER UNDERESTIMATE.

Not now… and not EVER.

If you do come down with the flu or other viral infection… which I pray you don’t… there’s a cooling herb from China you need to know about.

Here’s what it could do for you.

Cool fruit

I’ve shared with you before right here in eAlert how forsythia (Forsythia suspensa) is an anti-inflammatory herb used for respiratory infections .

That’s why it’s one of the KEY components of the best-selling Chinese herbal blend for flu called Lianhua Qingwen… and DOZENS of other herbal formulas in China, too.

But forsythia could be a hero COMPLETELY on its own!

But I’m not talking about the small yellow flowers that earn this shrub the nickname of “golden bell.”

Turns out, the most potent medicinal part of the forsythia plant… named after William Forsyth, the 18th-century botanist who exported it from China… is the fruit!

Known in Traditional Chinese Medicine as “Lian Qiao,” forsythia fruit is picked early… while it’s still green… and dried for herbal preparations.

One of its primary uses is, in TCM terminology, to “clear heat” and “purge fire.”

What that means for you is a powerful inflammation BUSTER and fever REDUCER.

It gets its anti-inflammatory power… at least in part… from the presence of substances called lignans.

In studies, both pinoresinol and phillyrin have demonstrated the ability to BANISH inflammation

Which could potentially protect against tissue damage… like in the lungs….

But phillyrin specifically brings even MORE to the table.

It turns out that it’s also an infection-fighting powerhouse!

And there are lots more beneficial plant compounds found in forsythia fruit…

So many, in fact, that scientists are STILL discovering new ones!

Between its cooling qualities and antimicrobial actions, it comes as no surprise that research has shown that forsythia fruit could be particularly helpful in cases of H1N1, a pandemic strain of the flu (a.k.a. influenza A).

In Asian medicinal practices… not only China, but also Japan, Korea, and Taiwan… forsythia flower is also known by the Latin terminology “Fructus Forsythiae.”

Look for forsythia-based health products at your local Asian specialty market or online.

You may find it as a dried herbtincturecapsule… or tea.

Feel free to blend it with other antiviral herbs, like honeysuckle.

To a track record that’s 2,000 years long,

Melissa Young
