First of all, I hope you’re finding a way to enjoy this holiday with those you’re closest to… and getting a little fresh air and sunshine.

Memorial Day isn’t just about parties and parades… but also quiet reflection about those who’ve made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedom.

There are some loved ones we can’t be with today. And that can just break your heart.

But we’ll be together again someday soon…

And in the meantime, we must remain VIGILANT about our own heath and the wellbeing of those we love.

So today, I’m going to share a simple kitchen trick to BANISHING one of the hardest-to-treat infections – one that that disproportionately affects seniors.

I’m talking about urinary tract infections.

Whether it hurts when you pee… or you’re “going” all too often… UTIs can leave you feeling MISERABLE.

There’s no “quick fix” out there…

But there’s something natural you can try, especially when drugs have already FAILED you.

It’s a humble spice that’s found in some “sinful” sweet treats…

But its infection-fighting powers are downright SAINTLY!

A bark with a powerful bite

You may have heard that ancient Egyptians used cinnamon as a medicinal herb, but there’s a catch…

There are approximately 250 DIFFERENT species of tree bark that are considered “cinnamon”!

And you’ve got to use the right kind to get the MAXIMUM benefit from it.

The cinnamon in your spice rack is probably the cheap stuff from China… known as “cassia” cinnamon.

The kind I’m going to share with you today is a little more expensive… but A LOT more effective.

Its Ceylon cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum) – a.k.a. “true cinnamon,” produced from tress that are native to Sri Lanka.

Locked inside the bark, you’ll find volatile oils… like cinnamaldehyde… that are antimicrobial powerhouses.

And that helps make Ceylon cinnamon an infection-fighting HERO.

Especially when it comes to UTIs.

In a 2007 study out of Brazil, Ceylon cinnamon essential oil showed “a higher and a stronger” activity against various E. coli strains, compared to the antibiotic drug streptomycin.

Not only is E. coli one of the BIGGEST perpetrators of UTIs…

But too many UTI sufferers find that antibiotics DON’T work to clear the infection!

Now, maybe they’ve got another option besides MORE or DIFFERENT antibiotics.

Unfortunately, E. coli isn’t the ONLY culprit behind UTIs…

And this is where Ceylon cinnamon really steps up to the plate.

In a 2019 study out of India, the bark extract INHIBITED the growth of E. coli… plus 4 ADDITIONAL bacterial strains known to cause UTIs.

I’m talking about…

  • Pseudomonas aeruginosa
  • Proteus mirabilis, which can also cause urinary stones and even become life-threatening, especially in older folks
  • Enterobacter aerogenes, a bacterial strain found on catheters that can resist MULTIPLE drugs, and
  • Klebsiella pneumonia, which seems to those in long-term care with a prior history of antibiotic treatment.

You may have never heard of that last one, but the prevalence of Klebsiella UTIs is second only to E. coli UTIs in older folks.

And certain strains of Klebsiella have already acquired “superpowers” in becoming IMMUNE to antibiotics.

But Ceylon cinnamon appears to offer broad spectrum protection against all 5 of these UTI-causing pathogens.

So, what can Ceylon cinnamon do that antibacterial pharmaceuticals CAN’T?

A 2015 study showed how cinnamaldehyde INACTIVATED the protective film that surrounds the bacterium E. coli on urinary catheters (a.k.a. the “biofilm”).

Biofilms are the BANE of existence for pharma execs… who can only sit back and watch as their drugs FAIL against infection-causing bugs.

Now, you DON’T want to ingest straight cinnamon oil – on its own, it’s WAY too powerful and may cause some distress on the way down (and the way OUT).

Otherwise, Ceylon cinnamon supplements are safe to take… as long as you’re aware of 2 of their OTHER benefits.

They can…

  1. lower blood sugar, and
  2. thin the blood.

So, proceed with caution if you’re already on diabetes meds or blood thinners… and always check with your doc first before trying anything new.

Look for 100% organic Ceylon cinnamon supplements in capsule form at your local health food store or online.

To the virtues of cinnamon,

Melissa Young
