You’ve probably known that ultra-processed foods aren’t the healthiest choice for your body…

But did you know that these industrially-made, high-fat, high-sugar, and high-salt foods could also be wreaking havoc on your brain?

A shocking new study has revealed that consuming ultra-processed foods may significantly increase your risk of cognitive decline and stroke.

And with over 70% of the U.S. food supply consisting of these brain-damaging foods, it’s time to take action.

The study, published by researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, followed more than 30,000 participants ages 45 or older to investigate the impact of ultra-processed foods on brain health.

The results were alarming…

Participants whose diets included 25.8% of ultra-processed foods developed memory and thinking problems, compared to those who ate 24.6% and did not develop cognitive issues.

In fact, a mere 10% increase in the amount of ultra-processed foods consumed was associated with a staggering 16% heightened risk of developing cognitive impairment!

But the dangers don’t stop there.

The study also found that eating more ultra-processed foods was tied to an 8% increased risk of stroke.

So, what can you do to protect your brain from the perils of ultra-processed foods?

The answer lies in embracing minimally processed, whole foods. The study found that eating more unprocessed or minimally processed foods was correlated with a 12% lower risk of cognitive issues and a 9% lower risk of stroke.

As Dr. W. Taylor Kimberly, senior author of the study, explains, “As a general rule, if the food cannot be easily made in your own kitchen, it may make sense to reduce that as a part of your diet. Even relatively small changes have the potential to have an impact.”

To optimize your brain health, experts recommend:

  • Preparing meals with healthy, whole ingredients
  • Eating more unprocessed fruits, vegetables, nuts, and fish
  • Limiting sugary drinks, fried foods, high-salt content foods, simple carbohydrates, red meat, and pork
  • Drinking plenty of water instead of soft drinks or sweetened tea
  • Getting fresh air and regular exercise

Remember, it’s never too late to start nourishing your brain with the foods it needs to thrive. By reducing your intake of ultra-processed foods and embracing a more whole-foods approach, you can take a powerful step towards preserving your cognitive function and reducing your risk of stroke.

To a healthier brain and a brighter future,
