Too much of this VITAMIN could be deadly
Folks, I’m not shy about touting the benefits of taking vitamins.
Frankly, I’d be a fool – and a fraud – if I DIDN’T.
But here’s the deal…
When it comes to taking vitamins (or any supplement for that matter) … it’s possible to have too much of a good thing!
In fact, it turns out that taking TOO MUCH of one popular vitamin could turn deadly… especially for older adults!
But there’s no reason to panic. I’m here to share everything you need to know…
Taking high doses of the vitamin BIOTIN could mask serious heart issues that may end up being missed on routine medical tests.
Biotin is a popular vitamin with older adults that helps fortify aging skin, hair, and nails.
But overdoing it on biotin can cause “false” low readings in a blood test that measures the protein called troponin – which is used to help diagnose heart attacks.
YIKES!
Now that news could be jarring – especially if you already take biotin.
But, I’m here to talk you off the ledge.
First, you should know how much biotin is “too much.”
High doses of biotin are considered 1 milligram/day (or more). Meanwhile, the recommended safe dosage of biotin is only 30 MICROGRAMS/day… which is the equivalent of just 0.03 milligrams/day!
Second, you should be mindful of the serving size if you are taking a biotin supplement as it’s likely that it varies by manufacturer. If a serving size is significantly more than 0.03 milligrams, you should scale back.
You can also eat foods rich in biotin as an alternative to supplements. Food like eggs, beans, lentils, and sweet potatoes are all biotin-rich options.
Remember, biotin is NOT bad. But taking overdoing it could lead to complications.
To safe supplementation,
