Outdoor “pastime” IMPROVES your vision? (Study)
There’s no shortage of “stuff” you can do outdoors these days.
From group walks around the neighborhood… a round of golf with friends… to taking a hike at your local park.
(And, let’s not forget that infamous “honey-do” list.)
There’s no denying that getting outside and staying active are two of the best ways to stay healthy.
But did you know there’s another outdoor “pastime” that can help you SEE better?
Impossible, right?
Well, take a “look” at this research…
The State University of New York’s College of Optometry has found that reading a book outdoors can IMPROVE your vision.
And with spring right around the corner, the weather will be perfect for getting outside to catch up on your favorite novel or magazine.
So how does a reading outside help your eyes?
According to the study, your visual contrast (which is the fancy term for how your eyes make certain things stand out more than others) increases outdoors and when you read under bright light.
Specifically, it stimulates your visual brain more effectively, allowing you to see the letters better, which in turn helps your eyesight!
This combination of reading and outdoor light helps folks distinguish those sometimes hard-to-see ‘faint’ objects better.
It’s almost like training… for your eyes!
Now, when it comes to reading outside, be sure to surround yourself with some type of shade.
For example, you could sit on your patio under an umbrella to avoid excessive sun glare. Or, wear a hat to protect your eyes from direct sunlight. And, don’t forget your sunglasses.
It’s also important to continue to see your eye doctor once-a-year for a routine eye exam to ensure that your eyes are structurally sound and healthy.
You can also boost your eye health by incorporating both lutein and zeaxanthin.
To seeing better with age,
