This ‘brain bulb’ helps you keep your mental EDGE
You might think that to stay SHARP well into your “golden years”… you’ve got to keep your mind active with puzzles, games, or a pile of good books.
And if you still start to get a little dull around the edges… it must be the result of “bad genes”… or just bad luck.
But there’s something else that could SABOTAGE your mental clarity as you get older.
I’m talking about inflammation.
Friend, there are LOTS of factors that could INFLAME your brain tissue…
And to help keep cognitive function from SHORT-CIRCUITING… it’s crucial that you take steps to COOL IT DOWN.
Here’s an anti-inflammatory “kitchen trick” that could help your brain from becoming BLUNT.
I recently shared with you that garlic (Allium sativum) is one of the anti-inflammatory foods that could help REDUCE your risk of dementia.
Surprised?
You shouldn’t be…
Because Hippocrates, the father of “modern medicine,” determined long ago that garlic could be prescribed for MANY illnesses.
Ancient medicinal practices in India and even Iran have used the “stinking rose” as a drug alternative for AGES.
And even today, garlic is SO popular around the globe… cargo ships SMUGGLE it across borders to avoid paying pricey tariffs.
One of the keys to its anti-inflammatory action seems to lie in the sulfur-containing compound allicin… which is where that telltale garlicky smell comes from.
That’s not all…
Because in a 2015 study out of the University of Missouri, researchers identified yet ANOTHER garlic compound that could help support brain health.
It’s called FruArg…
And in the study, it helped SHIELD brain cells from inflammation and other potential damage from aging and environmental stress.
Even better, FruArg can cross the blood-brain barrier… which is a MAJOR obstacle for many nutrients to get to where they’re needed most!
Now, that study looked at a special type of garlic that had been AGED for nearly 2 years – a process that typically TURBOCHARGES garlic’s antioxidant content.
One of those antioxidants is called S-allylcysteine (SAC)… which has also been shown in studies to help BANISH neuroinflammation…
And PROTECT against neurodegeneration.
SAC is highly bioavailable… with studies showing how it can SURVIVE your digestive process until it can get ABSORBED by your gut.
And while your body can ABSORB and DISTRIBUTE it quickly… it takes much longer for it to ELIMINATE it! That gives it PLENTY of time to work its wonders.
There’s even more to this story.
A 2016 study out of South Korea found that even plain ol’ garlic oil could help promote cognitive function in 2 key ways:
- INCREASING levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), which is like fertilizer for the growth of brain cells
- INHIBITING acetylcholinesterase (AChE), the enzyme that reduces levels of the “memory hormone,” acetylcholine.
Now, you could add lots and lots of garlic to your kitchen creations… but not everybody enjoys the taste (or the smell)…
And some older folks have trouble digesting it.
So, look for steam-distilled garlic oil…
Or aged garlic supplements… ideally with a standardized content of SAC. They usually don’t “stink” as much as the fresh or roasted stuff.
Another option is Life Extension’s Optimized Garlic…which contains a minimum percentage of allicin. That could be a plus, considering how cooking with heat tends to REDUCE the allicin impact of garlic.
