UNDERAPPRECIATED fruit helps set the stage for a disease-free ticker
If you’re thinking about how you could improve your heart health…
OF COURSE you should consult your heart doc.
But if he’s a STICKLER for mainstream approaches… don’t be surprised when he rattles off a list of pills you should be taking!
And I don’t just mean that daily “baby aspirin” habit.
I’m talking about cholesterol meds… blood pressure meds… blood thinners… and more.
You’d need to hire a secretary to keep all your dosages straight!
But it turns out that there’s just 1 thing you could add to your daily routine that could keep your heart health moving in the right direction.
Eat THIS every day for your heart
I’m sure you’ve heard about… or even tried… the “home remedy” of eating prunes (Prunus domestica) to help you poop.
And you’ve read right here in eAlert how this “bathroom trick” can help build bone mass, too.
But these fruits… which are actually dried plums… have even MORE going for them…
Especially if you’re an older gal who’s gone through “the change.”
Because the latest research out of San Diego State University shows how prunes can help BEAT BACK heart disease risk!
In a recent clinical trial on postmenopausal women, eating prunes helped…
- EXTINGUISH inflammation
- LOWER oxidative stress
- REDUCE markers of cell damage, and
- BALANCE cholesterol levels, including boosting HDL (or “good”) cholesterol.
And all the study’s subjects did was to add 5-6 prunes to their daily diet over the course of 6 months.
NO other dietary changes. NO additional exercise. NO pills.
Now, we know that prunes are rich in free-radical-scavenging phenolic compounds… like neochlorogenic acid and chlorogenic acid…
Both of which on their own have shown heart benefits… including keeping cardiac injury at bay.
Prunes also contain vitamin K and potassium – and both of those support heart health by promoting healthy blood pressure (and that’s just for starters).
So, it comes as no surprise that previous research has shown that eating prunes can help keep BP from spiking too high.
Now, you CAN find prune supplements… but they’re generally formulated to work as a laxative.
So, your best bet is probably to just eat organic prunes you’ll find at the market.
Or, you can make your own – by popping some fresh, organic plums in a kitchen gadget called a dehydrator.
Eating the whole fruit will help you get the full impact of its fiber content… which happens to be good for your heart as well as your bowels.
But don’t go overboard – because when it comes to prunes, more ISN’T more.
After eating about 6 prunes a day, you won’t increase your heart benefits…
Only your sugar intake.
To snacking your way to better heart health,
Sarah Reagan
