Ever notice how some folks in other parts of the world are able to spice the heck out of their foods… and NEVER seem to get indigestion?

Meanwhile, Americans can get an upset stomach from a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

I would suggest that maybe being so AVERSE to spices is actually DETRIMENTAL to our digestion.

Because in other countries… ones that have some of the most FLAVORFUL foods around… some of the most common culinary herbs ALSO help beat back digestive complaints!

There’s one in particular I’d like to share with you today, as it can help BANISH poop problems… and even help you retain your “stomach of steel.”

A kitchen trick for tricky digestive issues

Native to India, the curry leaf tree (Murayya koenigi) produces a culinary herb whose history dates back at least 2,000 years.

When dried, its leaves serve as a seasoning in Indian cuisine, called “kadi patta.”

The tree is actually a member of the citrus family… which accounts for the citrusy flavor its leaves can lend to soups and stews.

But there’s another reason why the people of the Indian subcontinent eat SO MUCH curry leaf…

And it’s not just because they like how it tastes.

It’s also got TREMENDOUS medicinal value — especially when it comes to digestion.

But it’s BARELY used anywhere else in the world.

In the ancient practice of Ayurveda, curry leaf is known as krishnanimba… named after the deity Lord Krishna himself!

Folk uses of raw curry leaves include CURING dysentery

And in modern times, curry leaf is STILL used to DRY UP diarrhea… including the kind caused by infections.

It gets its antimicrobial power from a substance called cinnamaldehyde…

But that’s not all it’s got to offer.

This may SOUND like a contradiction… but curry leaf also helps EASE constipation with a mild laxative effect!

And it doesn’t stop there, either.

Curry leaf also acts as a potent antioxidant… thanks to its content of a substance called girinimbine.

That action helps SHIELD your stomach from developing ulcers (which can also be caused by “bad bugs”)… and PROTECTS your liver from damage.

Curry leaf has even been known to help BEAT BACK nausea and vomiting.

In India and Sri Lanka, the leaves are fried in clarified butter (a.k.a. ghee)… mixed with dairy milk (from cows, which the Hindus consider sacred)… or pulverized into a juice.

If you’re interested in Indian cooking, you can try incorporating curry leaf into your own recipes. Look for the dried leaves at your local Indian market… Asian specialty store… or online.

You can also look for curry leaf supplements in capsule, powder, and tincture form.

To eating your way to healthy digestion,

Melissa Young
