FLUSH OUT the common cold with this soapy secret weapon
Catching a cold is like getting a papercut.
It’s SUPPOSED to be minor…
And you’re EXPECTED to power through it as though nothing’s happened…
But the truth is, you’re MISERABLE!
You’d try ANYTHING to feel better… but today, I’ve got something you’ve likely NEVER tried.
It’s a “home cure” for congestion that’s got some powerful science backing it up…
Yet it’s as gentle as can be.
A new spin on an old Hindu trick
If your nose is running or stuffed up… or your sinuses are PACKED and painful…
One of the most effective remedies ISN’T a drug… and it could actually help you use FEWER meds (or at lower dosages).
It’s a process called nasal irrigation…
And it’s a way to SWEEP the mucus out of your nasal passages and sinuses!
Some folks find it incredibly SOOTHING, too.
Now, the standard and time-tested method is to rinse your passageways with a simple saline solution – one that you pour from a small pitcher called a neti pot.
Neti pots have been traced back to the ancient Hindus… and the beginnings of the traditional medicinal practice of Ayurveda.
You may have seen one at your local pharmacy or health food store… or even tried using one yourself.
But there’s a special trick you may have NEVER heard about – one that can BOOST its effectiveness.
I’m talking about adding baby shampoo into the mix.
Now, this might sound a little BIZARRE to you…
But some head and neck docs commonly recommend baby shampoo for their sinus surgery patients.
And a study published earlier this year shows baby shampoo to be SUPERIOR to other rinse solutions in terms of certain post-surgery outcomes, like nasal discharge… scarring… and formation of blockages (like crust).
You see, baby shampoo contains glycerin, a moisturizing ingredient that could help relieve irritation…
But that’s not all.
It also contains compounds known as surfactants, which not only help produce that bubbly “lather”…
But also could help THIN mucus… and PROMOTE drainage!
There’s something else that these sudsy compounds can do…
And this could turn out to be baby shampoo’s “trump card.”
They exhibit antiviral action!
In a recent in vitro study out of Penn State, diluted baby shampoo impressively DESTROYED one of the most common viral culprits behind the common cold.
After just 2 minutes exposure, baby shampoo NEUTRALIZED more than 99.9% of the viruses!
Compare that to the regular ol’ neti pot and saline solution… which didn’t exhibit ANY antiviral activity in the study.
How could this be?
Because baby shampoo is a detergent… and detergents are known VIRUS KILLERS!
Fortunately, baby shampoo is gentle enough for your sensitive nasal and sinus cavities…
Especially at a 1% dilution.
And it’s easy enough to do yourself at home.
Simply add about a half a teaspoon of baby shampoo to 8 ounces of the saline solution that comes with the neti pot kit that’s sold commercially.
Remember to use sterilized or distilled water, as even boiled tap water can contain irritating contaminants.
If your symptoms don’t clear after a couple of days… or WORSEN… be sure to check with your doc to rule out something more severe than the common cold.
To bubbly breathing relief,
Melissa Young
P.S. I previously shared with you a natural way to DECONGEST your stuffy nose and sinuses… and help them DRAIN. It’s a kind of “straw tea” that could also help DRY UP excess mucus.
