Breast cancer “scan scam” endangering women
It’s a sickening gold rush — and it’s targeting all of us.
For years the Breast Cancer Industry has been making billions by bullying and terrifying women into getting toxic treatments and even disfiguring surgeries they don’t need.
But it looks like they’ve found a new get-rich-quick scheme. And it’s catching on fast.
If you or someone you love is scheduled for breast cancer surgery, there’s a good chance a hospital or doctor is going to pad your bill with a $1,000 MRI scan you don’t need.
They’ll claim they’re just being thorough. But even cancer experts admit it’s a money-grubbing scam — one that carries dangerous risks you might not learn about until it’s too late.
Scanned or scammed? When you’re diagnosed with breast cancer, of course you’re going to want the very best care.
But it’s starting to look like the Breast Cancer Industry is a lot more interested in clearing out your bank account than clearing out your tumors.
Need proof? Researchers from Ottawa Hospital in Canada just looked at the records of more than 50,000 breast cancer cases.
And the number of women getting MRIs before their surgeries skyrocketed by 800% in just the past 10 years.
With growth like that, you’d think there was some hot new science proving these MRIs save lives.
Well, not exactly. Even cancer experts admit there isn’t a shred of evidence — or any current guidelines — recommending MRIs before breast cancer surgery.
But doctors and hospitals are still ordering them up by the thousands, and there’s only one reason for that.
You see, the current guidelines only call for a pre-surgery mammogram and ultrasound for most women. But at $1,000 a pop, an MRI brings in 10 times as much cash as a mammogram and three times more than an ultrasound.
Now, of course, when a doctor suggests an MRI before your surgery, it’s going to sound like a great idea. He’ll tell you it’s a way to spot even small, undetected tumor cells to make sure they’re getting all the cancer out of you.
But there are three dangerous truths about these MRIs that every woman should hear before ever agreeing to a scan.
Truth #1: MRIs won’t add a single day to your life
If you ask me, no woman should have to suffer through a test that won’t make her surgery go any more smoothly and won’t increase her chances of beating cancer. But that’s exactly what’s happening with these MRIs.
Many studies have shown that women who get MRIs don’t have better surgical outcomes, are just as likely to have their cancer come back, and don’t live any longer. The only winners here are the doctors, hospitals and diagnostic centers charging a fortune for the scans.
Truth #2: MRIs could leave you with a mastectomy you never needed
I’ve been telling you for years that mammograms are about as reliable as a broken clock. But believe it or not, for breast cancer patients MRIs may be even worse.
They routinely produce false-positive readings and lead to overly aggressive — and often unnecessary — treatments. Studies have shown that women who get MRIs have a much higher rate of mastectomies than those who skip the scans.
Truth #3: MRIs can destroy your brain — and give you more cancer!
If you have breast cancer, there’s a good chance you’ll get what’s known as an “enhanced” MRI. That means you’ll be injected with a dye that’s supposed to help doctors spot rogue cancer cells.
The only problem? Many of these dyes contain a poisonous metal called gadolinium. And as I told you a couple months back, researchers found that gadolinium can linger in your bones and brain for the rest of your life. It can cause organ damage, neurological diseases and even cancer.
Listen, the rush to send women with breast cancer for MRIs may be good business, but it’s not good medicine.
In fact, the Canadian researchers found that the more money you make, the more likely your doctor is to order an MRI. Call me crazy, but I don’t think that’s a coincidence.
When you’re diagnosed with cancer, it’s only natural to feel scared and even a little desperate. But that’s exactly when the mainstream is going to look to take advantage of you.
That’s why it’s important to keep a cool head, get a second opinion, and never sign on for a treatment that’s more likely to add zeroes to a doctor’s bank account than extra days to your life.
