Out of the trans fats, into the fire

After kowtowing for years to their masters in the food industry, FDA officials finally acted to remove trans fats from our food supply. And the fawning praise from the clueless mainstream media was just embarrassing.

Too bad I couldn’t make it to their tickertape parade.

But now, after the celebration, the harsh reality sets in… something has to take the place of those deadly trans fats.

And oh boy…we are out of the trans fats and into the fire.

Secret in the bean

If anyone thought last week’s announcement meant that our days of scrutinizing food package nutrition panels were over, they were sorely mistaken.

The Associated Press broke the bad news. They noted that “Growers are promoting new soybean oils” that will eliminate the process that creates trans fats.

“Growers”? Don’t make me laugh! For the word “growers” you can insert “Big Agra Fat Cats,” or “Big Chemical,” or let’s just keep it easy and say “Monsanto.”

Now this may seem like a bit of a maze, but indulge me for just a second…

Almost all the soy grown in the U.S. is GMO. That means it’s mostly “Roundup Ready.” It’s grown from Monsanto’s patented seeds that are genetically modified to survive drenching with Monsanto’s Roundup weed killer.

The problem is that GMO soy crops absorb glyphosate (the killer ingredient in Roundup). And traces of glyphosate end up in soy oil and dozens of other soy products. Researchers believe that long-term ingesting of glyphosate might play a role in promoting gastrointestinal disorders, diabetes, heart disease, depression, cancer, and Alzheimer’s.

Now, most people have no clue they might be getting a little weed killer in every serving of soy. In fact, most people will think that swapping out trans fats for soybean oil is a great idea. After all, they’ve heard for years that soy is “health food,” right?

Wrong! That myth is epically wrong! We’re just trading one dietary disaster for another.

Here’s why…

* Soybean oil is mostly omega-6, which promotes inflammation.

* Unfermented soy products (such as soybean oil) contain phytic acid, which blocks mineral absorption, notably zinc, magnesium, and calcium. Virtually everyone needs MORE of these minerals to protect their health.

* Soybean oil contains substances that promote sticky clumping of red blood cells

So, what do you think the chances are the FDA will stand up to Monsanto and the rest of Big Agra and curb the use of tainted soybean oil?

The trans fat era won’t be over for a couple of years. We still have to check labels for any mention of partially hydrogenated oils that create trans fats. So it’s time to start checking for soybean oil too. And avoid it like the plague.

Better yet, avoid it like trans fats.
