You don’t often find excellent advice for blood sugar control on afternoon television, but there it was
He certainly is the closest thing to a modern day wizard, this Dr. Oz.
At least in how he can make things disappear. Just him uttering the name of a supplement on his show can obliterate world-wide supply.
Fortunately for type 2 diabetics, that won’t happen in this case. Because the two latest recommendations for this condition from him and his guest pharmacist Stacia Woodcock are in ample supply.
Woodcock noted that many type 2 diabetics have low magnesium levels.
Over the years, I’ve told you about studies that link magnesium intake with reduced diabetes risk. One of those studies found that 200 mg of magnesium per every 1,000 calories is ideal. That’s a good fit with Woodcock’s recommendation of 400 mg per day.
And it certainly doesn’t hurt that magnesium also promotes healthy bones and reduces blood pressure.
To Woodcock’s recommendation, Dr. Oz added chromium polynicotinate, 200 mg daily.
Chromium is one of the most studied and most effective supplements for blood sugar control. And 200 mg is considerably higher than the RDA.
If you’re concerned about your blood sugar, make sure you are getting both of these nutrients in ample supply…and you might want to stock up before he mentions them again.
