What makes the drug world go ’round? Do we really have to ask?
Remember those “Connect-the-dots” games — how a bunch of little round circles would turn into a dog or a bunny?
Let’s play the grown-up version today and see what happens when we connect the dots on one of my favorite subjects…you guessed it…Gardasil!
Most mainstream doctors, medical administrators, and politicians fall in line with the CDC in claiming that Gardasil is proven effective and safe. It’s easy. They just point to the CDC and say, “We’re with them. You should be too.”
Most of these mainstreamers probably take the CDC party line at face value. But I’m sure many are aware that it will actually be years before we know the true profile of this relatively new vaccine.
But, of course, Merck executives are leaving nothing to chance.
Take the pending California law change that would sideline parental consent for Gardasil for girls as young as 12.
The bill was introduced by California Assemblywoman Toni Atkins, who told Ed Silverman of Pharmalot that she was never contacted by Merck (the maker of Gardasil) or offered any campaign contributions from the company.
Clean as a whistle.
But Atkins also told Pharmalot that representatives at the American College of Gynecology (ACOG) helped her gather data and craft the bill.
And does ACOG have any ties to Merck?
Well what do you know! They do! Pharmalot reports that Merck gave ACOG nearly half a million dollars last year, and almost $100,000 in the first quarter of 2011.
Dots connected!
Hmmm…does that look like a bunny — or a check — to you?
