Hey, Sunshine! What vitamin deficiency do you suppose is linked to dementia risk?
Hey, Sunshine! What vitamin deficiency do you suppose is linked to dementia risk?
You’re already getting plenty of vitamin D, right?
I mean, why wouldn’t you? Over the past few years I’ve sent you numerous e-Alerts about the many benefits of vitamin D…
- D fights cancer and strengthens the immune system
- D supports heart health
- D helps control inflammation
- D helps relieve chronic pain and fatigue
- D helps maintain healthy lung function
- D is essential for bone health
And what about the brain?
According to researchers at Peninsula Medical School in the UK, evidence shows that adequate vitamin D may protect the brain. So the Peninsula team enlisted more than 1,700 subjects over the age of 65. When cognitive function tests were matched to fasting blood samples that measured vitamin D levels, researchers found high levels of D to be linked to normal function, while lower levels were linked to cognitive impairment.
Most striking: Subjects with the lowest levels were four times more likely to have impaired cognition.
