Pop quiz: what’s the no. 1 cause of chronic kidney disease?

If you guessed diabetes, you’re spot on.

Over 30% of diabetics eventually face this devastating diagnosis which disrupts your body’s crucial filtration system—putting you on the fast track toward dialysis dependence.

But emerging science shows one simple step could substantially drop this risk.

New research tracked adults over eight years. They used activity monitors to measure their exercise intensity and duration.

Individuals tallying between 329-469 minutes of moderate or vigorous movement weekly showed a significantly lower likelihood of developing chronic kidney disease versus their less active peers.

What’s more impressive? Participants who steadily upped their physical activity just over an hour through the first four years reduced their kidney harm odds by a solid 33%!

Experts think exercise benefits your kidneys by improving insulin response and blood flow while reducing inflammation—all mechanisms frequently disrupted in diabetes.

And, while an hour daily provides maximum perks, multiple smaller 10-minute movement bursts throughout the day still pay solid benefits.

So try doing jumping jacks or marching in place during commercial or get up and walk around the house if you’ve been sitting on your computer for a while.

And remember, “exercise” encompasses far more than just gym sessions! Taking the stairs over elevators, parking further out to walk further in, or choosing active hobbies—like gardening—all sneak activity into your schedule.

The first step is to get up and moving. Then, make that call and schedule comprehensive screenings so that no risk goes overlooked.
