A Christmas secret lowers prostate cancer risk?
Merry Christmas!
I hope you spend your day with family, friends… and even relaxing around your Christmas tree.
And guys, you’re gonna want to pay attention to this one—because there’s a compound found in some of the most popular Christmas trees out there that can lower your risk of PROSTATE cancer.
The Norway spruce (Picea abies) is an evergreen that THRIVES in northern European forests, where it’s cultivated as a Christmas tree.
And it turns out that this tree contains a compound that can beat back prostate cancer!
It’s called 7-hydroxymatairesinol (HMR)… and it’s a type of polyphenol known as a lignan.
Studies on HMR found it can inhibit prostate cancer cell growth and production by:
- INTERRUPTING the cell growth cycle
- REDUCING cancer cell density
- INDUCING “cell suicide” (a.k.a. apoptosis), and
- LOWERING levels of PSA (prostate-specific antigen proteins).
Not only that, additional studies found that HMR is only toxic to cancer cells… meaning it won’t zap your perfectly healthy cells (unlike chemo or radiation).
And the MORE the cancer cells were EXPOSED to this lignan… the LESS they could grow and multiply.
Now, when HMR is consumed via supplement, our bodies CONVERT it into another kind of lignan, called enterolactone—which can ACCUMULATE in your prostate gland and its surrounding fluids.
Studies found that moderate levels of enterolactone are associated with a LOWER risk of prostate cancer.
So think of HMR like an added layer of prostate protection.
Look for a supplement that contains a purified extract called HMRlignan, which is standardized to contain a certain percentage of lignans.
Be sure to consult with your doctor if you have prostate cancer or have a heightened risk.
Merry Christmas,
