The real TRUTH about salt … and your BRAIN
Salt often faces a bad reputation.
Some people even FREAK OUT at the very notion of salt in their food…
As if the very sight of a salt shaker will cause them to keel over!
The fact is, eliminating salt from your diet is complete nonsense – and DANGEROUS (plenty of studies back that up).
But that DOESN’T mean you should be eating salt with reckless abandon, either.
Today I have some news on why overdoing it can wreak havoc on your brain and memory…
AND why you don’t have to put down the salt shaker just yet…
Let’s get one thing clear when it comes to eating salt and your health.
Salt becomes dangerous when you eat absurdly high levels of the stuff – especially when it’s found in PROCESSED foods.
See, most processed foods have so much sodium, food manufacturers might as well use a dump truck to load the stuff in.
THAT’S the salt you need to stay away from – not the salt shaker on your table.
Which leads me to the news around too much salt and your brain…
A study published in the journal Nature Neuroscience have found that a diet high in salt may promote cognitive decline by destabilizing levels of the protein tau.
Studies have found that excessive levels of tau are a warning sign of DEMENTIA.
It should be noted that this study was done on mice. But I don’t see why humans shouldn’t be aware of the impacts of salt on the brain, too.
To me, it’s another reason why processed JUNK is a big contributor to so many PREVENTABLE health problems – especially in the U.S.! (But that’s another story for another day)
In the meantime, seasoning your food with some salt isn’t going to kill you. But if you want to take a easy step to better long-term health…
Ditch the processed CRAP and stick to whole, natural foods!
