Adios, Arthritis? Novel Therapy Grows NEW Joints
If you have arthritis, your alarm isn’t the only thing begrudgingly waking you up each morning.
It’s also your aching joints!
As soon as your feet hit the floor you feel it from your hips to your knees… and if you’re old school and make your bed, like myself, you may even feel pain in your elbows and wrists.
Even gripping your toothbrush is a struggle!
And you haven’t even had your morning cup of coffee yet!
But thanks to some groundbreaking research, the pain and frustration of arthritis couldsoon be a thing of the past!
Today I’m going to give you an exclusive first look at a new therapy being developed here in the United States.
It has the potential to grow NEW joints…
It’s still undergoing extensive testing (and isn’t yet available for humans) …
But it could one day be the CURE for arthritis that we’ve been hoping for.
Researchers at the University of Connecticut have successfully developed a technique using small electric shocks that REGROW cartilage in animal studies.
Deteriorated and damaged cartilage is one of the main drivers of arthritis.
Cartilage is the cushion between the bones of your joints. But when the cartilage has thinned (or disappears entirely) it causes your bones grind against each other, making everyday activities incredibly painful.
Because cartilage wears down as you age, scientists have long sought a way to regrow healthy cartilage.
And now electricity appears to be the missing component to stimulating the body into re-growing healthy, fluid cartilage.
During lab and animal tests, researchers designed a ‘scaffold’ – a commonly used technique doctors use to repair or reconstruct missing or injured body tissue.
The scaffold is made the same biodegradable material used to stitch up surgical wounds, called poly-L lactic acid (PLLA).
The substance is piezo-electric – which means it produces a little burst of electricity when squeezed.
Researchers discovered that when the ‘patient’ started walking and the joint moved, the movement generated a weak, but steady, electrical field, encouraging cells to grow into cartilage.
And ‘new’ cartilage is essentially like getting a brand new (and pain-free) joint!
Again, more research continues to be performed on this ‘electric’ therapy, but the findings are promising.
In the meantime, if you do suffer from arthritis and are looking for another way to help ease your joint pain, consider taking a bromelain supplement – a protein-digesting enzyme mixture derived from the stem, fruit, and juice of the pineapple plant.
Bromelain packs a wallop of anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties that make it an effective – and natural – treatment for the pain, soft-tissue swelling, and joint stiffness associated with osteoarthritis (the most common form of arthritis).
Just be sure to talk to your doctor prior to taking it.
To more comfortable joints,
Sarah Reagan
