[VIDEO] The ‘filthy’ irony behind this common head cleanser
Remember at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic when we all suddenly needed a reminder about the importance of washing your hands?
SIGH!
We’re past that point… and we’re thankfully past the point of hoarding hand soap!
But we’re still making sure we keep our hands clean and germ free (as we should).
Unfortunately, there’s a disgusting new discovery about a tool designed to CLEAN your hands… that is actually making your hands FILTHY!
Trust me, this one is going to floor you.
Meet Dallin Lewis. He’s from Utah and decided to run his own experiment on hand hygiene. Specifically…
Just how clean are ELECTRIC HAND DRYERS?
They gotta be clean, right? After all, it’s just hot air blowing out of a motor… and unlike a stack of paper towels, it hasn’t been touched.
Well, Lewis may have just debunked one of the biggest myths about keeping your hands germ free.
During his study, he visited multiple public toilets in convenience stores, gas stations, and movie theatres. Each time, he held Petri dishes under various hand dryers to see how much bacteria was spread from the dryers.
He compared it to letting your hands air dry. He then placed the labeled Petri dishes into an incubator for three days to allow the bacteria to grow.
He found that the “air dry” dish didn’t show any noticeable bacteria growth.
But every single one of the hand dryer tests showed a considerable number of white spots, indicating a HIGH level of bacteria.
In other words, Lewis’ test found that using an air dryer could make washing your hands POINTLESS!
This was purely a social experiment… not done in a controlled lab environment. But it certainly makes you think twice about opting for that blown air!
You can watch a synopsis of Lewis’ experiment here.
In the meantime, do your best to dry your hands with paper towels (if they’re available). Studies have found they’re much cleaner than air dryers.
To germ-free hands,
Sarah Reagan
