Beware this LITTLE-KNOWN side effect before picking up your next Rx refill
You can feel your memories SLIPPING AWAY…
And you might think there’s NOTHING you can do to maintain a FIRM GRIP on them.
But friend, the good news is that may not necessarily be true.
Because there could be a HIDDEN culprit behind memory loss – one that your doc might NEVER look for.
Here’s why you should take a look inside your medicine cabinet after reading this urgent warning.
You’ve read right here in eAlert how taking certain medications could lead to memory loss…
Like antibiotics and statins.
Today, I’m here to share with you the MEMORY-SAPPING risk of a specific type of blood pressure-lowering drug.
I’m talking about beta-blockers.
Also known as beta-adrenergic blocking agents, they help REDUCE blood pressure by INHIBITING adrenaline – a hormone that your adrenal glands produce in response to stress.
A FLOOD of adrenaline during a traumatic event… like a natural disaster, car accident, or violent act… helps ENERGIZE your body to get out of danger.
But it does something else, too…
It works on your brain to help FORM long-term memories.
It’s this same mechanism that’s thought to lead to PTSD in war veterans and crime victims…
Which is why a beta-blocker drug is sometimes prescribed in those cases… to help them “get over” the trauma and move on.
Here’s the problem…
Beta-blockers might not be PRECISE enough to zero in on ONLY fearful memories.
Because they work on a chemical level… there’s NO way to “pick and choose” WHICH emotional memories are ERASED!
In fact, beta-blockers actually suppress TWO chemicals – adrenaline (a.k.a. epinephrine) and the neurotransmitter norepinephrine.
BOTH of these are involved in memory retention…
And many memory-boosting approaches actually work by INCREASING norepinephrine… which tends to be LACKING in patients with mild cognitive impairment and Alzheimer’s disease.
Thing is, memory loss ISN’T listed among the warnings of beta-blockers. You might NEVER know that it could occur simply by reviewing the published side effects.
And although current guidelines DON’T restrict their use among patients with memory loss…
Research shows that taking beta-blockers could actually WORSEN neurodegeneration!
Not sure if the BP drug you’re currently taking is a beta-blocker?
MANY of their names end with “-olol”… but not ALL of them.
Check with your doc or pharmacist to be sure.
And if you haven’t already started on any them… and your doc prescribes one… ask if there’s another option.
There are OTHER classes of blood pressure medications out there to choose from…
But even better, there are NATURAL ways to manage your BP readings by making lifestyle changes…
And by taking vitamins… herbal supplements… and other nutrients.
