Purple ‘berry’ could give hypertension the BOOT
Your blood pressure readings have been a little on the high side…
And your doc has issued a WARNING.
You’ve got one last chance to get your BP under control with diet and exercise…
Or you’ll be off to the pharmacy!
If you haven’t been paying too much attention to your BP numbers… especially because you KNOW that mainstream targets are arbitrarily LOW…
The threat of being put on BP meds could be a wake-up call for you.
Because once you start… it could be practically IMPOSSIBLE at some point in the future to convince your doc you don’t need to take them anymore
And nobody wants a lifetime sentence to ANY drug.
Friend, you want to do what you can to avoid getting SLAPPED with that “hypertension” diagnosis.
So, consider adding a new ingredient to your antihypertensive diet.
It’s a purple-skinned vegetable – one that’s actually a BERRY!
If you’ve ever dined out for Italian or Greek food, you’ve certainly come across a dish made with eggplant (Solanum melongena).
And while it tastes good… and is high in fiber… it’s not usually PRAISED much for its nutritional content.
That’s a SHAME…
Because eggplant was discovered as a possible cancer fighter all the way back in the early 19th century…
And as I recently shared with you, a special African variety of eggplant could also help BEAT BACK type 2 diabetes.
But today, I’m here to talk about eggplant’s influence on blood pressure… and how it could help you stay out of the crosshairs of hypertension.
Traditional Chinese Medicine has used this vegetable as a healing herb to improve blood circulation – FOR AGES.
And the latest science BACKS UP that traditional use.
According to a 2019 clinical trial out of Japan, stressed-out folks who supplemented with eggplant powder on a daily basis saw their systolic (“top number”) and diastolic (“bottom number”) measurements go down.
Now, this wasn’t a “quick fix.” Overall, the participants saw significant results within 2 months.
That might SOUND like a long time… but not when you consider that some folks undergoing conventional care NEVER get their BP readings under control!
Even better, consuming eggplant powder also helped the study participants FEEL less stressed-out…
Reporting an IMPROVED mental state when it came to anger… depression… confusion… and more.
And best of all, there were ZERO adverse events reported.
Now, the researchers attribute these positive effects to eggplant’s content of acetylcholine – a neurotransmitter typically associated with cognitive benefits (a.k.a. the “memory hormone”).
But this “brain chemical” actually does impact heart health and vessel function… and it could be one of the ways the brain helps REGULATE blood pressure so it doesn’t go too high!
Research has shown how acetylcholine helps DILATE blood vessels through the production of nitric oxide (NO)…
And how BP is lowered by acetylcholinesterase inhibitors (a.k.a. anything that helps BLOCK the action of the enzyme that EATS AWAY at acetylcholine).
In the clinical trial I mentioned earlier, subjects consumed four 300-mg capsules of eggplant powder containing the equivalent of 2.3 mg of acetylcholine.
If you choose to eat whole eggplant, that’s the equivalent of 22 grams – but because the researchers used a special method of standardizing the acetylcholine content, there’s no guarantee you’ll get the same amount by roasting up a batch of your own.
However, eggplant is a star ingredient of the blood pressure-friendly DASH diet… and you can find plenty of recipes online…
So, it could be worth a try.
Non-GMO eggplant extract supplements are available in capsule form from Piping Rock. You should be able to find them at your local health food store or online.
I wouldn’t be surprised if other supplement makers follow suit, based on emerging science… so keep your eyes open (and I will, too).
