Don’t let this respiratory virus SACK you when you’re not looking!
Friend, there’s a respiratory virus that’s ZEROING IN on older populations…
But it’s not the one you’ve been hearing about for a year and a half now.
No, it’s not SARS-CoV-2 – or the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19.
It’s something ELSE… something you might not have EVER heard about before.
And even though it’s been ECLIPSED by the current pandemic…
And, in prior years, by the flu and pneumonia…
Your respiratory health DEPENDS on protecting yourself against it.
Don’t worry – this isn’t a ploy to try to get you to roll up your sleeve for a shot.
In fact, there’s NO vaccine that’s been approved for this respiratory illness.
But that doesn’t leave you in the LURCH… not by a long shot!
A defensive block
I’m talking about respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV for short.
It’s not new. Actually, it’s been around at least since the 1950s.
Now, many headlines have been TERRIFYING parents of young children – because RSV does tend to strike infants under 2 years old.
It could cause a NASTY case of bronchitis… but most children over 6 months old will likely recover as quickly as easily as if it were a cold.
What you might NOT have heard is how RSV can also target seniors with serious illness!
Because instead of staying in the UPPER respiratory tract… it could SPREAD DOWNWARDS into the lungs…
Potentially causing pneumonia and even RESTRICTING oxygen supply.
Sound familiar???
And as this virus tends to FLOURISH starting in the winter months… this is information you need to know RIGHT NOW.
Don’t get me wrong…
Just like COVID-19, while RSV can be deadly… it is NOT a death sentence.
But there are some folks who need to be particularly aware of their heightened risk.
It’s not just age (especially those 65 and over)…
But also folks with certain pre-existing conditions, like heart disease and respiratory ailments like asthma and lung disease…
And folks with compromised or otherwise WEAKENED immune systems… like patients undergoing cancer treatments… or those taking immunosuppressant drugs for autoimmune conditions like RA, lupus, and more.
RSV is considered very contagious, as it transmits via droplets (from coughs, sneezes)… and, unlike SARS-CoV-2, via surface contact.
That means if you touch anything with RSV particles on it… like a doorknob, countertop, or even an infected grandchild’s face… you could risk catching this virus.
Friend, I’m not here to SCARE you. We’ve had enough of that since March 2020.
But you need to know that if you catch a SEVERE case of RSV, it could land you in the hospital…
And it’s when hospitalized that too many seniors acquire ADDITIONAL infections!
Not the least of those is pneumonia… which sometimes occurs after a patient has to be put on a ventilator to help them get enough oxygen.
And some folks have been catching COVID-19 from OTHER hospital patients, too.
Here’s the kicker about RSV…
While it’s a DIFFERENT virus than the one that causes COVID-19… it temporarily WEAKENS your immune system…
Possibly leaving the door open for the novel coronavirus to walk right in and set up shop!
And those 2 different viral infections occurring simultaneously could certainly negatively impact outcomes.
Trust me, this is a bug you DON’T want to catch. Especially considering the mainstream has got ZILCH to offer in terms of a cure.
But you also don’t want to make any MORE sacrifices than you already have!
Believe me, we ALL want this to be over with as soon as possible.
All this means is that you have to keep taking some of the same common-sense precautions we were reminded of when this whole thing started.
It’s the basics our mothers taught us, like…
- washing hands thoroughly with plain ol’ soap and water
- keeping our hands away from our faces
- cleaning frequently used hard surfaces, and
- maintaining distance from anyone who’s actively sick.
Unless you’re running a daycare facility or teaching classrooms full of young schoolchildren, you DON’T need any special or extra disinfecting products… equipment… or pandemic “accessories.”
Stay focused on promoting good respiratory health… supporting your immunity… and keeping your heart strong…
And you won’t be a “sitting duck” for viral infections.
