STABILIZE blood sugar control with this ancient Arab berry
When your doc first diagnoses you with type 2 diabetes… and has you start monitoring your blood glucose day and night…
He’ll shrug and say, “You’ll get used to it.”
But that’s what HE wants… so he can keep CLOSE TABS on you!
Think of those finger pricks as his own little tracking device.
And when the numbers don’t EXACTLY match up to the “goals” he’s set for you… he won’t hesitate to put you on a blood sugar-lowering drug.
But having to keep your levels under CONSTANT surveillance is NOT something you want to get used to.
You SHOULD be able to keep your blood sugar in check…
WITHOUT it taking over your life!
And, friend, I’m here to tell you today that you CAN.
One of the tools that can help you OVERCOME blood sugar woes is as ancient as it gets.
It’s an OVERLOOKED ingredient of the Mediterranean diet — one that’s also a key part of traditional Arabian medicine.
A ‘bush trick’ for blood sugar
They’ve been eaten for at least 9,000 years…
Although they’ve only been cultivated as a crop over the last 4 decades or so.
After they’re harvested, they’re usually “pickled” in vinegar and salt… and served as a condiment with chicken and seafood dishes.
I’m talking about the Mediterranean staple, capers.
These tiny flavor bombs… each one smaller than a pea… are actually the immature flower buds of the caper bush (Capparis spinosa).
But the caper bush also produces a FRUIT – the larger but similarly used caper berry.
And caper berries are commonly used for their anti-diabetic action on the other side of the world, in Morocco… a practice that dates back to the ancient Arabs.
In a small clinical trial published in 2013, consuming caper berry extract was associated with improvements in…
- fasting blood glucose
- HbA1c (glycosylated hemoglobin), and
- trigylcerides
And the diabetic participants in the study were able to turn around these key factors in just 2 months.
But that’s not all…
Because just last year, a randomized triple-blind placebo-controlled clinical trial… even BETTER than the “gold standard” of modern research… found that capper berry extract INHIBITED the progression of the disease in diabetics with metabolic syndrome.
And in BOTH of those studies, participants showed ZERO negative impact on their kidneys.
In fact, other research has shown a potential protective quality for the kidneys!
That may be, in part, because of the anti-inflammatory potential of caper berries. A 2011 study out of China showed how antioxidants extracted from these “fruits” can INHIBIT the activation of the NF-kappa B pathway.
Why is that important?
Because NF-κB is associated with the DESTRUCTION of insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas… and with a variety of diabetic complications.
You can find caper berries fresh or jarred in brine… but beware that they tend to be high in sodium.
One of the studies I mentioned above gave participants 400 mg of 24% caper fruit extract, 3x daily.
That’s the equivalent of about 5 grams daily of the whole fruit.
You can also search online for caper fruit extract or caper powder – just make sure whatever you choose is from a maker you trust.
