‘Red wine’ nutrient SLASHES fracture risk in brittle, aging bones
Here’s my question for you today…
How are your bones holding up?
Because if you’re an older gal… and you’ve already gone through “the change”… they could probably use a little boost.
After menopause, plummeting hormone levels are often associated with thinning bones…
And that can set you up for back pain… disability… and even LOSS of independence.
Fortunately, there’s a way to REDUCE bone loss… CUT fracture risk… and even BUILD bones back up…
But I’m not talking about any of those “bone meds” your doc might already be pushing on you.
Instead, it’s a natural antioxidant – one that’s newly shown to produce THICKER, DENSER bones in 2 of the most common fracture sites in postmenopausal women.
Like bodybuilding for your bones
By now, you’re more than familiar with resveratrol – the nutrient found in the skin of red grapes (and, to some extent, in red wine).
I’ve shared with you before here in eAlert its cardiovascular and even cognitive benefits…
But it turns out there’s even MORE to learn about this antioxidant hero.
An ongoing study out of Australia… called RESHAW (Resveratrol Supporting Healthy Aging in Women), the longest-running resveratrol study of its kind… just came out with some STAGGERING results.
And they have to do with bone health.
In older gals, supplementing with resveratrol is associated with a REDUCED risk of a major bone break… including a hip fracture… over the course of 10 years.
The study, which conducted bone scans on postmenopausal women, revealed bone density had IMPROVED in 2 key areas: the lumbar spine (a.k.a. vertebrae) and femoral neck (the top of the leg bone where it meets the hip).
Now, resveratrol showed the biggest improvement in those who needed it the most – older gals with poor bone health.
But the findings show that even women WITHOUT osteoporosis can reap bone benefits from resveratrol.
The researchers behind the study theorize that resveratrol works by supporting healthy blood circulation into all the tiniest reaches of your body’s tissues.
And that includes DEEP inside your bone marrow.
That’s just part of the story…
Because this latest research adds to what earlier studies found regarding resveratrol and bone health.
One animal study that found that this nutrient also PROMOTES bone-building activities of osteoblasts and INHIBITS the bone loss activities of osteoclasts.
Know what else inhibits osteoclast activity?
Big Pharma’s bisphosphonate drugs!
But resveratrol won’t DEPLETE your body of nutrients the way those prescription meds could.
And in one of the most RIDICULOUS twists in all of Big Pharma’s concoctions, those bone meds can ALSO cause bone and joint pain… and even increase your fracture risk!
In the Australian study I just mentioned, postmenopausal women took 75 mg of resveratrol twice daily over the course of a year.
The product they used is a patented form of resveratrol sold as Veri-te, made by a company called Evolva (which also co-sponsored the study).
But you can choose any trans-resveratrol supplement you like from a quality maker you trust.
Consider taking it alongside your calcium tablets and vitamin D3 supplements!
To dense bones,
