Today, I’d like to share with you the laurels of the exotic loquat tree (Eriobotrya japonica).

Contrary to its scientific name, it’s actually native to China – and is often nicknamed “Chinese plum.”

The fruit of the loquat tree has properties that have been shown to…

  • BOOST energy and OPTIMIZE metabolism
  • SUPPORT heart function
  • EXTINGUISH inflammation, and
  • BANISH free radicals that cause oxidative stress in neurological systems.

And all 3 of those benefits I just mentioned could certainly help ANYONE stay strong and healthy.

But there’s MORE to the nutrient-packed loquat – specifically, in its leaves.

Known as Pi Pa Ye in Traditional Chinese Medicine, loquat leaf has helped respiratory and stomach issues for AGES.

Those leaves are LOADED with beneficial compounds, like phenolics (a.k.a. antioxidants) and triterpenes.

One prominent triterpenic acid in loquat leaf is called ursolic acid

And according to a 2019 in vitro study, ursolic acid extracted from loquat leaves may help keep frailty at bay by targeting the cells that contribute to osteoporosis.

I’m talking about the osteoclasts – or the “bone-eating” cells that have been linked to lower bone mass and mineral density.

Previous research showed how ursolic acid could SUPPRESS the creation of new osteoclasts… while this latest study shows how it can ALSO inhibit the differentiation of osteoclasts.

That’s 2 ways to NIP bone resorption issues in the bud!

And stronger bones could mean LESS potential for fracture… disability… and frailty.

In a 2016 clinical trial out of Korea , taking loquat leaf extract containing ursolic acid was associated with female participants’ hand grip getting significantly STRONGER.

That’s an indication of the herb’s ability to boost muscle function…

And it confirms what a previous animal study found about how loquat can BEAT BACK muscle atrophy.

You don’t need me to tell you how muscle weaknessDECLINING muscle mass… or even muscle WASTING (a.k.a. sarcopenia) are MAJOR contributors to loss of mobility and independence!

And we already know that ursolic acid also has some pain-relieving properties, as it acts as a COX-2  inhibitor.

More studies are needed to find out what the ideal dosage would be for people… and over how long a period of time…

But the Japanese SWEAR BY drinking loquat leaf tea.

You can find loquat leaf extract in liquid/tincture form at your local health food store or online. Look for one with a standardized content of ursolic acid.

Another option is to directly supplement with ursolic acid… which may have been extracted from a variety of plants, including apples, rosemary, and holy basil.

Ursolic acid supplements have also been linked to reduced markers of skeletal muscle damage, especially after exercise.
