Bariatric surgery: a very dangerous way to ‘cure’ diabetes

It’s a diabetes treatment that could kill you in a matter of days — and some mainstream surgeons are doing everything they can to sell your doctor on it right now.

If you or someone you love has diabetes, you know you need to take it seriously. Over time, diabetes can make you a sitting duck for heart disease and even Alzheimer’s.

But there’s a growing movement to push countless diabetics into a potentially deadly operation that could shut down their immune systems and even leave them starving to death.

And a new, shameful study is being used to convince your doctor that asking you to go under the knife is the greatest idea since sliced bread.

But believe it or not, that notion is gaining traction among mainstream surgeons who stand to make a fortune.

And they’re doing their best to pitch it to doctors everywhere — maybe even yours.

Just last year, the second “Diabetes Surgery Summit” was held in London. And it’s exactly what it sounds like — a group of surgeons who want to make gastric bypass surgery (where your stomach is sliced down to the size of an egg) the primary way to treat type 2 diabetes!

That’s right. You can forget eating better… or losing weight naturally… or exercising more. All you have to do is sign up for one of the most gruesome and dangerous surgeries around, and you’ll be “cured.”

They make it sound like such a bargain, you’d think “Let’s Make a Deal” was back on the air. But here’s what they’re really offering you — they’re trying to treat a disease that could kill you down the road with a surgery that could kill you tomorrow.

I’ve been telling you for years that gastric bypass has been linked to dangerous infections, malnutrition, and even suicides (more on that in a moment). Some people have even died right after getting the surgery.

And if you’re wondering what science could possibly back such a reckless approach to treating diabetes, well, they’re doing their best to cook some up.

Dr. David E. Cummings from the University of Washington in Seattle (who has received financial support from a Johnson & Johnson subsidiary that makes gastric bypass equipment) has a new study that everyone in the mainstream is talking about.

He’s claiming that gastric bypass did a “better job” of bringing diabetics into remission than diet or exercise ever could. But I dug into the science (something I wish the media would do for once), and it’s about as reliable as a Bigfoot sighting.

The people in the so-called “behavior modification” group — the folks who were asked to change their diets and exercise more — were practically set up to fail!
They were given advice on how to eat better and were asked to exercise 45 minutes a day, five days a week. But we all know how well advice on eating and exercising well works, right? And nobody can say for sure how diligently the patients actually did either.

Actually, during the entire second half of this study, all the “lifestyle” subjects got were weekly emails or phone calls from a dietician and encouragement to attend a monthly “group nutrition” meeting.

Really scientific, huh?

Make no mistake about it — this was a study designed to push gastric bypass on diabetics and their doctors. And, unfortunately, lots of them won’t read the fine print and will fall for it.

That’s a disaster waiting to happen, because this procedure can trigger everything from liver disease, to a dangerous shutdown of your immune system and death.

I also recently told you about a study that tracked 9,000 gastric bypass patients, and found that their suicide rate is four times higher than the national average.

And then there’s the little problem of malnutrition. Sure, you’ll be eating less, but your body won’t be able to assimilate nutrients properly — some people who get gastric bypass end up practically starving to death.

No matter how “easy” these diabetes surgeons want to make it appear, there’s nothing simple or safe about gastric bypass surgery.

Look, there are plenty of approaches to getting your blood sugar under control — from low-carb diets to increasing your exercise routine to supplements like berberine.

But letting a surgeon slice and dice your stomach shouldn’t be one of them — no matter how aggressively these money-happy surgeons are trying to push it.
