If a drug might cause more problems than it solves, put a candy coating on it
At first, I almost didn’t believe it. But then, it kind of made perfect sense.
Have you seen the new ads for Prilosec OTC? This proton pump inhibitor drug now comes with a “fancy coating.”
And how fancy is it? According to the ad, this highfalutin coating “gives you a burst of wildberry flavor.”
Wildberry. My. That IS fancy.
Long-term PPI use increases risk of poor nutrient absorption. The FDA even issued a warning about magnesium deficiency, which the agency links to irregular heartbeat and bone fracture risk.
So if you make a drug that’s been revealed to potentially create more health problems than it solves, what do you do? Just give it a candy coating. Literally!
Problems solved.
