Urgent help needed for constipation
This Week In The HSI Healthier Talk Community
Sooner or later, everyone has to cope with a bout of constipation. It’s not a pretty topic, but when an HSI member posts a thread titled “Urgent help needed for constipation,” quite a few members offer suggestions to help her get back on track and return to normal.
Here’s part of the leadoff posting: “What on earth can one do to become regular? I was taking Linda Paige’s Herbal & colon Cleanse. It works well, but you are not supposed to take it ‘forever’.my problem is, if I don’t take something, I don’t go. I have tried extra fiber, prunes, stool softeners, lots of water. I work out vigorously three times a week. Nothing seems to help.”
Deb: “How about some extra magnesium?”
Sally: “I would absolutely recommend magnesium as it is the only thing that worked for me. I have never tried it, but I like the idea of the effervescent magnesium because liquids are better absorbed. You can take up to 1,200 mg of magnesium daily. If it doesn’t work right away, keep taking it for a few days. Also, no one has mentioned vitamin C. 1000 mg every hour to bowel tolerance. When I take magnesium for laxative purposes, I take it before I go to bed, usually 800 mg or more, and it works by morning almost all of the time! Good luck!”
SoCalGal: “7-10 servings of fresh fruits and vegetables every day.”
Naturalway: “Are you avoiding white flour, sugar and refined foods? You might have to lessen your intake of meats, fats, nuts and dairy and eat more fruits and vegetables and beans peas and legumes.”
Jerry: “I was in Costco a few weeks ago and on a whim, I bought a bottle of Noni juice $18.00. I started drinking it about 2 tablespoons a day and within a few days I realized I was getting a colon cleanse. And a very gentle one at that. I recognized it as a cleanse because I have done others such as Dr. Schulze and Jon Barron.”
Rosnor: “Aloe Vera juice has that effect on me. It is supposed to be ‘mildly’ laxative. With me, it was explosive.”
Kristen: “Coconut oil works for me!!”
Nina: “Try to have as much yogurt, also what usually works for me is to have an turkish caffe in the morning.”
Jeremy: “Have you tried squats? Yes the exercise! It is essential to good elimination. Our ancestors always worked off the ground constantly squatting down to do things. Also our bodies were designed to squat during elimination. I can tell you it works, and I actually practice it daily. This will really help you! I would shoot for 10 – 12 servings of fruits and vegetables!! Eat your bananas as green as possible – high fiber, low sugar. I have a few relatives with the same problem and they say that a good probiotic keeps them going.”
