This vitamin is excellent for vision health AND brain health
We know that vitamin C helps support vision health. But it appears that support might be far more important than previously thought.
A study from Oregon Health & Science University shows that cells in the retina of the eye “need to be ‘bathed’ in relatively high doses of vitamin C, inside and out” in order to function.
And this has further implications for brain health.
The retina is actually part of the central nervous system. So the OHSU team believes that the retina’s need for C “suggests there’s likely an important role for vitamin C throughout our brains, to a degree we had not realized before.”
The researchers call this a “surprising discovery.” But really, knowing all we know about vitamin C’s versatile benefits, should we be at all surprised to find out it’s an essential nutrient for brain function?
