Bedeviled by hot flashes? How about a cold one?
Fewer Menopausal Symptoms After Drinking About 10 Ounces of the Low-Calorie, Low-Alcohol Beer
The newest way to treat hot flashes and other menopausal symptoms comes from the Research Institute of Brewing and Malting in Prague, the Czech Republic. The method is simple: Hops and barley malt contain phytoestrogens. So just boost the hops and barley malt content in beer, and you’ve got a form of hormone replacement therapy that gives a whole new definition to the concept of Happy Hour.
According to the Independent Online, a gynecologist associated with the institute has conducted an informal trial in which 20 women reported fewer menopausal symptoms after drinking about 10 ounces of the low-calorie, low-alcohol beer every night for two months.
If this new brew catches on, I wonder if Wyeth Pharmaceuticals will petition the FDA to restrict the distribution of BHRT (beer hormone replacement therapy).
