Listening to Good Morning America last week, I did a double-take, grabbed the remote and rewound to make sure I heard it right.

A friend of Jared Lee Loughner said he’d been smoking Salvia, a hallucinogenic.

For years, I’ve been recommending Salvia to you because it’s a superfood that can help keep blood sugar, digestion, and hearts healthy.

So let me assure you that even though they share the same first name, they are nothing alike.

Salvia hispanica (also known as chia) is the superfood we first wrote about a few years ago when our affiliate company, NorthStar Nutritionals introduced us to it..

Salvia divinorum is a Mexican herb. When smoked, it produces a powerful intoxication, complete with hallucinations.

Salvia divinorum has been in the news more and more lately. It seems Loughner isn’t the only one indulging. In fact, teen pop star Miley Cyrus was recently caught on tape smoking Salvia divinorum at a party.

Please don’t let the similar name dissuade you from trying Salvia hispanica. It’s a highly concentrated source of omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, fiber, proteins, and other key nutrients. In fact, the ancient Aztecs used it as medicine and even offered it to their Gods.

Now some people do find it “addictive” – but only when they realize how much better and more energetic they feel when they use it.

You can find more information about the benefits of Salvia hispanica on the NorthStar Nutritionals website.
