When I wrote about Potter’s Acidosis in the December 10th e-Alert, I told you to look for more detailed coverage in the February issue of your HSI Members Alert newsletter. But many of you couldn’t wait to find out more about this herbal cure for indigestion and acid reflux. The HSI Research mailbox was flooded with questions. And unfortunately, many of you wrote to say that you were having difficulty ordering the product from the sources we listed in the e-Alert.

HSI members will be receiving their February issues soon. But I didn’t want to keep all of you waiting any longer. Here is some more information about Potter’s Acidosis that I hope will answer your questions.

Q. How can I get Potter’s Acidosis?

A. Potter’s Acidosis is made by Potter’s Herbal Medicines, a British company. At this time, the only sources we could find are located in the United Kingdom. We are working with Potter’s to set up a U.S. distributor, and we’ll keep you informed of our progress. But in the meantime, you can order Potter’s Acidosis in several ways:

* Call Potter’s Herbals directly in England. From the U.S., dial 011-44-1942-405100.

* Order from one of the following websites. All of these websites are British, so understand that the prices and the address fields are configured for British information. But customers from the U.S. can still order; it just may take a little more patience.

http://www.goodnessdirect.co.uk On the home page on the left, look under the Search the Shelves header. Click on “digestive.” That will take you to a page entitled “Stomach and Digestive System.” The products are listed in alphabetical order, so you’ll have to scroll down to see Potter’s Acidosis.

http://www.herbal-direct.com From the home page, click on “herbal medicine” on the left. The product is listed as “Acidosis” under “A”, second from the top.

http://www.academyhealth.com From the home page, click on “Herbals” listed under Academy Health Home. Scroll down and click on Potter’s Herbal Medicines. Then you’ll see Acidosis tablets listed on the left.

Q. Is Potter’s Acidosis safe for children?

A. Potter’s Acidosis is not recommended for children. It is also not recommended during pregnancy.

Q. Potter’s Acidosis contains charcoal. Can charcoal interact with other medications?

A. Each Potter’s Acidosis tablet contains 40 mg of charcoal. It is true that charcoal can interact with some medications; just as it absorbs excess acid in your stomach, it can also absorb drugs and reduce their effectiveness. If you regularly take a prescription medication and are concerned about the possible effects of the charcoal in Potter’s Acidosis, discuss the formula with your doctor before taking it.

Remember, the February issue of the HSI Members Alert newsletter contains more detailed information about Potter’s Acidosis, and all of the sources listed above. We’ll keep working to find an easier way to provide Potter’s on an ongoing basis, and keep you informed of our progress.
