How do you make “natural” safe? Include a little “not natural”
“This product is made of 92% natural ingredients.”
That line, printed on a bottle of Jergens Natural Lotion, caught my eye. Just 92%? That leaves a lot of “unnatural” wiggle room.
Wondering about that mysterious 8%, I went to the Jergens website and found some FAQs that explained everything. Here’s the reason “not natural” ingredients are included: “These ingredients help to make the moisturizers safe and enjoyable to use and also reduce the risks of contamination…”
Of course! Because all that natural stuff is just so unsafe and difficult to enjoy. I hate that!
But here’s my favorite Jergens FAQ: “Do natural ingredients make Jergens Naturals moisturizers more or less safe than the Jergens moisturizers I’m currently using?”
Good question. And you’ve got to wonder about that because, after all, there’s the obvious risk of contamination.
And the answer: “All Jergens products have been thoroughly reviewed and tested to ensure safety.”
That’s right – even those scary mostly-natural products.
