Update on Texas teen whose cancer was treated with alternative therapy
Wondering what’s up with Katie?
I was wondering too.
Longtime e-Alert readers might remember Katie Wernecke, the 13-year-old girl who I called my hero in 2005 after she was forcibly separated from her parents and ordered to undergo chemotherapy.
And Katie said no.
Can you imagine the nerve it took for this very young woman, without her supportive parents by her side, to stare down a team of doctors and nurses and give them a flat “no”?
The recent incident with Daniel Hauser reminded me of Katie, but when I went to her blog website I found that it hadn’t been updated since early 2007. That seemed odd (and troubling) because Katie and her parents had been fairly consistent about posting reports on her condition.
Finally I came across a short piece about Katie on the website for KWCH Television in Wichita, Kansas. Wichita happens to be the home of Bright Spot for Health, a clinic established by Hugh D. Riordan, M.D., who is one of the pioneers of intravenous ascorbic acid (IAA) as a cancer treatment.
As I’ve noted in many e-Alerts, IAA therapy delivers very high doses of vitamin C. Studies have shown that generous concentrations of the vitamin prompts production of hydrogen peroxide, an oxidizing agent that attacks cancer cells but leaves healthy cells undamaged.
Dr. Ron Hunninghake – the Bright Spot doctor who treated Katie – told KWCH: “Katie Wernecke is completely healed now and is your typical teenager doing well.”
Wonderful news!
We can only hope that this mess in Minnesota with Daniel Hauser turns out just as well.
