[Warning] The Heart-Attack Risk Hiding In Your Medicine Cabinet
For decades, millions of Americans were given the same advice…
Especially women.
Take calcium tablets every day, if you want to keep your bones strong as you age.
Nobody questioned it.
Calcium was recommended by doctors…
Sold over the counter…
And faithfully taken by countless seniors.
But if you’re following this guidance right now, there’s something you should know.
The mainstream advice on calcium is horribly outdated… and it could have you rocketing toward a heart attack or stroke.
A massive new study out of Hong Kong tracked more than 235,000 people with existing heart disease.
What they found should stop you cold.
Those taking calcium supplements alone had a 21% higher risk of another heart attack, stroke, or cardiovascular event.
Not a tiny blip. A double-digit increase in life-threatening risk.
So how does something “healthy” turn harmful? It comes down to where that calcium ends up.
Your body needs calcium in your bones. But when you take high-dose calcium supplements…as some doctors have been recommending for years…
That calcium doesn’t always go where it should.
Instead, it can start circulating in your bloodstream. And that’s where trouble begins.
Because excess circulating calcium can:
- Settle into artery walls
- Accelerate plaque buildup
- Contribute to arterial hardening
In plain English?
The very mineral meant to strengthen your skeleton, can stiffen and clog your arteries.
That’s a dangerous tradeoff.
For years, the message has been simple:
“Take more calcium.” But biology isn’t that simple.
Your body doesn’t just need calcium — it needs to process it correctly.
And that requires key partners, especially vitamin D.
In the same study, people who took calcium WITH vitamin D did not show the same elevated cardiovascular risk.
Why?
Because vitamin D helps your body: Absorb calcium more efficiently. Direct it into bones (not arteries). And maintain healthier blood levels.
Think of it like traffic control.
Without vitamin D, calcium can wander into places it doesn’t belong. With it, calcium is more likely to reach its intended destination.
As we age, two things happen at once:
- Bone density declines
- Arteries naturally stiffen
That creates a perfect storm. You’re told to increase calcium intake…at the exact time your body is more vulnerable to calcification in the arteries.
So what should you do?
If you’re taking calcium supplements:
- Talk to your doctor about pairing those supplements with vitamin D. You’ll find plenty of combo products online.
- Ask your doctor whether you actually need supplementation, and consider whether dietary calcium (from food) is a safer route
- Look into bone-building alternatives like this supercharged mushroom
