Sleepless Nights? Surprising Culprit Could be Right Under Your Nose
We’ve all been there—tossing and turning when we should be ASLEEP.
Bleary eyes stare at the ceiling wondering why sleep just won’t come. And the next day is like living in a fog, you feel cranky and miserable—only do deal with the SAME sleeplessness the very next night.
Thing is, research shows that if you’re doing THIS at night, it could secretly be robbing you of much-needed rest…
If you constantly find yourself wired when you should be tired, mouth breathing may deserve some of the blame. Thankfully, a few simple tweaks can help you finally achieve peaceful slumber.
A survey of 2,000 UK adults found double the reports of regular nasal stuffiness among mouth breathers compared to nasal breathers. Chronic congestion affects a whopping 31% of those who breathe mainly through their mouths.
And when noses feel perpetually blocked, people understandably have trouble sleeping—in fact, 38% of mouth breathers confessed to constant STRUGGLES getting shuteye and staying asleep.
This tossing and turning all night leads to feeling fatigued all day. (Yes, over a THIRD of congested mouth breathers said they feel worn out throughout their waking hours!)
According to one veteran doctor, breathing through your mouth instead of nose causes cascading issues: Mouth breathing provides less oxygen, resulting in broken sleep and daytime fatigue. It also dries out the mouth, raising cavity and gum disease risks. And it can pave the way for more upper respiratory infections while aggravating tissues, like the tonsils.
So while nasal troubles clearly drive mouth breathing initially, doing so worsens congestion and breathing problems. It’s a vicious cycle!
In order to break out of the mouth breathing rut and resulting insomnia…
- Use saline sprays and nasal decongestants
- Sleep propped up to promote nasal airflow
- Minimize allergens and practice nose breathing during the day
Because at the end of the day, no one should lose restful sleep due to chronic congestion and mouth breathing. Follow these simple steps to clear your airways and achieve the deep, restorative sleep you deserve!
