A “super” gel STOPS gum disease?
Folks, your dentist is 100% correct when he says gum disease is no laughing matter.
Because when left UNTREATED, it can spiral out of control and lead to heart disease and even memory loss!
So your best bet is to nip it in the bud IMMEDIATELY.
Today I came across a story about a potential “revolutionary” treatment for gum disease that could hit the market in the very near future
I won’t lie… it sounds promising…
But is this treatment worth the buzz… or is it a bunch of HYPE?
A study, led by researchers at NYU College of Dentistry, says their team has developed a new, topical dental gel that could cure gum disease by protecting against mouth inflammation.
Now, walk down the dental aisle at your pharmacy and you’ll see plenty of topicals that can help treat gum disease…
But according to this news release, this gel is DIFFERENT because it blocks the receptor for a metabolic byproduct called succinate—changing the makeup of mouth bacteria.
This specific gel contains a small compound that attacks the succinate protein and prevents it from activating. Studies on human gum cells found it reduced inflammation and the subsequent processes that lead to bone loss (another risk factor for gum disease).
The team also tested the gel on mice with gum disease. They determined that the treatment every other day for four weeks cut bone loss in half compared to mice who did not receive the gel.
Based on this study, it stops the inflammation before it attacks your gums and spreads to other parts of your body.
That’s a win in my book. After all, inflammation is the root cause of ALL disease.
As for the gel, more testing and trials need to be done… but researchers are hopeful that eventually it will be used as an in-home treatment for gum disease.
My best guess is that, if it does come to market, it may come with a hefty price tag…
So don’t line up just yet. I’ve got something you can use TODAY.
Flaxseed is one of the BEST things you can consume for strong, healthy gums.
According to a study published in the International Journal of Herbal Medicine, flaxseed can prevent the growth of common periodontal pathogens that often contribute to the onset of gum disease.
Be sure to talk to your dentist about any inflammation or bleeding you may be experiencing in your gums to help determine the most appropriate treatment plan for you.
