Antibiotics with ZERO side effects: Fact or fiction?
Folks, I’ll be the first one to ADMIT it…
Antibiotics can be very USEFUL… and when used CORRECTLY, help fight off potentially DEADLY infections.
The problem is…
Antibiotics come with plenty of side effects like nausea, indigestion, bloating, and diarrhea…
They MESS with your good gut bacteria…
And when prescribed TOO MUCH, they can lead to antimicrobial resistance (AMR) – leading to strong, superbugs that won’t be conquered by a round of antibiotics.
Well, scientists are now saying the detrimental side effects of antibiotics could be a thing of the past.
Here’s what they’re working on… and why you DON’T have to wait on side-effect “free” antibiotic.
According to findings recently presented at the European Congress of Clinical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases (ECCMID 2023) in Copenhagen, Denmark, researchers say they have identified compounds that could reduce the side-effects of traditional antibiotics.
These “compounds” – according to their research – protect two abundant gut bacterial species (Bacteroides vulgatus and Bacteroides uniformis) that often become compromised with regular antibiotics and can alter your immune system.
Sounds promising, right?
Well, I hate to burst your bubble, but this “breakthrough” means incorporating compounds from OTHER drugs – specifically, the anticoagulant dicumarol, the gout medication benzbromarone, and two anti-inflammatory drugs, tolfenamic acid and diflunisal.
It’s all initial research, but I personally don’t think the answer to the antibiotic problem is MORE drugs! (Drugs that also come with their own side effects!)
Fortunately, you don’t have to do ANY of that!
For starters, if you’re EVER prescribed an antibiotic, have a firm conversation with your doctor to explore ALL of your treatment options to ensure an antibiotic is absolutely necessary.
(There are plenty of natural remedies out there.)
