The UNHEALTHIEST city in the country is…
Location, location, location.
This age-old adage of course applies to real estate.
But a recent headline caught my eye… and if you ask me, that catchy real estate-centric phrase unfortunately applies to how HEALTHY you are…
Or in this case… how UNHEALTHY you are!
The story I’m referring to is a recent ranking of 2023’s unhealthiest cities in the U.S.
Below I’m breaking down these unhealthy cities… not to shame ANYBODY…
But to offer a path to BETTER health… no matter WHERE YOU LIVE!
A WalletHub study looked at 182 heavily populated cities in the U.S., and found that Brownsville, Texas (a city at the southern tip of Texas) was officially the unhealthiest city in America.
The study looked at a number of factors… including everything from the average cost of a medical visit to the amount of fruits and vegetables the average resident eats.
Rounding out the top-5 of this list of unhealthy cities were:
- Gulfport, Mississippi
- Shreveport, Louisiana
- Columbus and Augusta, Georgia
You can do a quick Google search of the complete rankings and “scoring” methodology used.
And let me be clear… simply living in ANY of these areas doesn’t mean YOU are unhealthy.
But this once again showcases how UNHEALTHY much of our country is.
From increasingly sedentary lifestyles… to diets focused on refined carbs and sugars… to zero prioritization of getting outside and being active…
This country is getting FATTER… LAZIER… and downright UNHEALTHY!
But just because you may live in an area deemed unhealthy, doesn’t mean you have to be part of that statistic.
Your first step starts in the kitchen.
Eating whole, natural, REAL foods is the first step to a healthy lifestyle. Not succumbing to the typical Western diet of refined sugars and carbs will set your overall health up for success.
Second, get outside and MOVE! I recently pointed out how being outside (like walking) can boost your overall mental AND physical health.
Unfortunately, we as a society aren’t going to wake up and be a million times healthier tomorrow. But you sure as heck can start doing it TODAY!
